Artifact #3: Dignity for All Students Act Training.

Why did you include this artifact?

The Dignity for All Students training I have accomplished displays my core reasons and

passion for pursuing a career as an educator. Providing each student with a safe, caring, and

positive learning environment and treating each student with respect, dignity and equity will be

the most important value and mission in my classroom, and to myself as a teaching professional.

My hope as an educator is to be able to teach students how to treat one another kindly,

respectfully, and fairly so they can be contributing members of society who will want to be good

people and do good things.

How does this artifact show evidence that you are prepared for a career in education?

This artifact was chosen to showcase my commitment to ongoing professional

development and my belief that the teacher always needs to continue to also be a learner. As

teachers we need to be dedicated to the ethical standards of showing care and concern for the

student’s well-being, and learning environment. My DASA training and certification only

further emphasizes my passion for being an advocate for schools being an environment free of

discrimination and harassment

What curriculum and professional standards were used?

New York Code of Ethics for Educators

Principle 5: Educators collaborate with parents and community, building trust and

respecting confidentiality.

Educators partner with parents and other members of the community to enhance school programs

and to promote student learning. They also recognize how cultural and linguistic heritage,
gender, family and community shape experience and learning. Educators respect the private

nature of the special knowledge they have about students and their families and use that

knowledge only in the students' best interests. They advocate for fair opportunity for all children.

INTASC Standards

Standard #2: Learner Differences

Standard #9: Professional Learning and Ethical Practice

9(a) The teacher engages in ongoing learning opportunities to develop knowledge and

skills in order to provide all learners with engaging curriculum and learning experiences based

on local and state standards.

9(b) The teacher engages in meaningful and appropriate professional learning

experiences aligned with his/her own needs and the needs of the learners, school, and system.

9(m) The teacher is committed to deepening understanding of his/her own frames of

reference (e.g., culture, gender, language, abilities, ways of knowing), the potential biases in

these frames, and their impact on expectations for and relationships with learners and their

families.

9(n) The teacher sees him/herself as a learner, continuously seeking opportunities to draw

upon current education policy and research as sources of analysis and reflection to improve

practice.

9(o) The teacher understands the expectations of the profession including codes of ethics,

professional standards of practice, and relevant law and policy.

The Ontario Ethical Teacher Standards

Trust: The ethical standard of Trust embodies fairness openness and honesty. Members’

professional relationships with students, colleagues, parents, guardians and the public are based

on trust.

Even though DASA training is designed for the United States, I feel it is important to

note the above Ontario standard to demonstrate the commitment in all of North America to

create safe school environments free of discrimination and harassment.

Council for Exceptional Children

11. Engaging in the improvement of the profession through active participation in professional

organizations.

12. Participating in the growth and dissemination of professional knowledge and skills.
