7:40-7:55 am Classroom open and breakfast
Having the classroom open at this time allows students to come in
to the classroom to have breakfast before staring the school day.
Having breakfast for 15 minutes allows the students to have time to
eat and for those who have breakfast at home and show up to class
early to read or finish any class work.

7:55 am Tardy bell

7:55-8:25 am D.E.A.R time
As research has been shown D.E.A.R time is beneficial in many ways.
D.E.A.R time helps motivates students to read. The more words
students read they gain exposure to new words and their vocabulary
increases along with their writing strategies. During this time,
students are reading independently a book on their independent
level. D.E.A.R time at this time will allow students to get their mind
prepared for a day of learning by starting the day with a read on a
book of their choice.
8:20-9:40 am Reading lesson/ shared reading
Reading is the subject given more time to teach and I feel students at
this time in the morning will be awake and ready to learn after having
breakfast and D.E.A.R time. Students will transition from D.E.A.R time
to their reading lesson which is a simple way to transition. During this
time the teacher instruct the reading lesson and will have shared
reading.
9:40-10:20 am Specials
Specials at this time I believe will give students an academic break
and time to absorb everything they learned in the reading lesson.
Having this break after the lesson, students will be excited to get the
lesson going and know that they will have an academic break after
reading. During specials the teacher will also have conference time
open for parents to set up an appointment and come in at this time.
10:20-11:00 am Reading Centers/Workshop
After specials students will return to class and work in reading
centers. This will allow them to be prepared to continue the day
learning and working. During centers students will practice their
reading strategies they will also use their knowledge to complete the
work. After having an academic break, students should be ready to
continue working hard. During reading workshop the teacher will
teach and model reading strategies in small groups for students to
learn and to use when reading.
11:00-11:30 am Recess
Recess has been scheduled for this time as research has shown that
students waste less food, are more relaxed, and more alert during
class when they have recess before lunch.
11:30-12:00 pm Lunch
Lunch at this time is best for students because by this time it has
been 3 hours since they last had a meal if they had breakfast at
school. Around this time the students will begin to get hungry and
will need to recharge their energy with food. Lunch is after recess as
it will allow students to finish their lunches as they will be hungry
after recess which means they will waste less food.
12:00-12:55 pm Math lesson
During this time, students will begin with the math lesson. After
lunch students will be more alert during class and be focused on the
lesson. Because math is the other subject that is given more than 30
minutes to teach this will be done as whole group before centers.
During this time the teacher will be instructing, modeling, and also
teaching math strategies for students.
12:55-1:35 pm Math Centers
Having math centers right after the lesson will allow students to
practice what they just learned through a variety of ways in centers.
They get to utilize their skills and knowledge to complete the math
centers.
1:35-2:00 pm Writing Workshop/Interactive writing/Shared
writing
During writing workshop, the teacher will show examples of writings
and introduce writing strategies. In addition, the teacher will also
have interactive writing in which the teacher has students help her
create stories/sentences together as a class involving all students.
This is great practice for students to understand the writing process.
During this time, students will also be allowed to share their
writings/stories to the class or groups. Which will allow them to hear
each other’s stories and writings and share thoughts and ideas
together.

2:00-2:30 pm Science/Social Studies

Social studies and science will be rotated weekly. One-week science
will be taught three times a week and social studies twice a week and
vice versa. The goal is for students to learn and get familiarized with
both subjects and know they are equally important. It is important
that students get 30 minutes of science/social studies.
2:30-2:40 pm Interactive Read aloud
It has been proven by many sources and studies that read alouds are
extremely beneficial to students. Modeling to students how to read
with fluency, volume, and accuracy is a great way for students to
know what is expected of them and how it read with fluency. A read
aloud is a great way to conclude the school day by engaging students
in a read and involving them in a class discussions.
2:40-2:50 pm Word Study
After a read aloud I believe it is a good idea to have a word study and
use words from the book that was read to help them learn new
words/vocabulary by using those words in a sentence and writing
them down in their own personal word study booklet.
2:50-3:00 pm Pack up for dismissal
3:00 pm Dismissal
