INTRODUCTION TO REPORT

1.1 BCKGROUND OF STUDY

The study conducted is about Pakistan International Airlines, which


is semi govt. organization, provides air transportation, and is
considered as the one of frontline airlines of the world. Today we are
living in the age of computer and technological era. That helps
bringing people together even if they are living in other parts of the
world. Among these, Airlines is the one, which physically bring
people to gather around the world. Airline is the fastest traveling way
and without effective airline business, country cannot remain in
touch with the rest of the world. Pakistan International Airline is the
flag carrier of Pakistan. PIAC is one of the largest semi-
governmental organizations of the country. PIAC has contributed
positively towards the improvement of Pakistan’s balance of
payments position by earning and saving foreign exchange for
Pakistan. With the passage of time, it has improved its services to
compete in the international market. PIAC had been formed in 1954
and had been the first choice of the people till 1980s. Although there
are other airlines, too that deal in same business but PIA is the best
and well established of all. PIA has extensive network at domestic
and international level. PIA is one of the corporations, which can
lead country to prosperity.

1.2 PURPOSE OF STUDY

The main purpose of this research report was to conduct SWOT analysis of
PIA, make its comparison with Aero Asia and suggest solid
recommendations for overcoming some of the problems faced by it.

1.3 SCOPE OF STUDY


The study focuses on the activities of PIA in general .However, for
comparing it with Aero Asia, a survey was conducted in Peshawar region.
For this purpose questionnaire were distributed among people in Peshawar.

1.4 METHODOLOGY OF STUDY


To study an organization, one needs to have reliable and relevant data and
information. The data used in this study is of two types i.e. primary and
secondary data. For this study primary data as well as secondary data have
been used. Primary data is obtained by means of personal interviews and
questionnaires. Secondary data is collected from PIAC website, annual
reports of PIAC, various books, magazines, newspaper articles, and other
documents from the administration, finance and marketing departments.
Data has been analyzed in depth and interpreted in an effort to give a
realistic picture of the organization.

1.5 Primary Data


Most of the data used in this report is primary data, because written
material was very scarce and was not available. Questionnaires were the
sources of primary data used in this study.
The primary sources of my data are:
Questionnaires
Interviews with Managerial Staff
Formal interviews conducted with travel agents

1.6 Secondary Data


As a secondary source, I used annual reports, office records, PIAC
manuals, broachers, PIAC publications, and internship reports, books on
management and human resource management and internship manuals.

1.7 Limitation of the Study

The limitations of the study were the scarcity of the written material on the
said topic. Then there was the time duration limit, which hindered the
coverage of every aspect. Also due to lack of time the questionnaire given
to the people were not returned in time, wasting some of them as a result.
