XU Childhood Education and Literacy Lesson Plan - Middle and Early Childhood Education
Summary Students will open Schoology to view the video about setting and
reading the passage, “A New Home”. Students will, with their
knowledge of setting, will watch EDPuzzle then answer a discussion
board question about the importance of knowing how setting effects
plots, and then they will take an exit slip quiz.
Context of the Lesson Students are to watch the EDpuzzle video through Schoology
Students should have some prior knowledge about what setting
is
In future lessons, students will be expected to analyze and
describe setting in explicit detail while referring back to the
passage

specific details in the text (e.g., a character’s thoughts, words, or actions).
Standards*
Differentiated Instruction Students who may have trouble reading or working with the computer,
the teacher can work with them through the lesson one on one and
describe what they should be looking for.
Regardless, students will still be able to grasp the necessary knowledge
about setting to meet the expectations and complete the exit slip.
