Results and Discussion: AB 2 AB 2 AB 2 AB 2

During an experiment to analyze liquid diffusivity, raw data was collected and manipulated to apply an equation. Table 1 shows the slopes of each trial at different temperatures. The diffusivity for different liquids was calculated using the raw data and equation, and values were tabulated in Table 2. The actual diffusivity values in Table 2 greatly differ from the theoretical values, indicating errors in the experimental data collection.

Results and Discussion

During the experiment the raw data used for the analysis of the diffusivity of liquids experiment was
obtained.

From the data gathered it was manipulated in order for Equation (19) to be applied. Tables 1 shows
the slopes.

Table 1. Slopes of Each Trial

Slope
Liquid Used
T = 313 K T = 318 K T = 323 K
Toluene 3E-07 -4E-07 -3E-07
Acetone 2E-07 -4E-07 -5E-07
Ethanol 3E-07 -3E-09 -4E-07
Hexane 8E-08 -4E-07 -4E-07
Methanol 3E-07 -3E-07 -1E-07

The diffusivity for the different liquids was calculated using the raw data and using Equation (21). The
values wad tabulated in Table 2. The diffusivity of for the trial with a temperature of 313 K was not computed
because from Table 1 showed a positive slope. The positive slope in trial 1 showed that in acquiring the data
there was an error done, because the slope should yield a negative value.

Table 2. Actual and Theoretical Diffusivity of the Liquid for Each Trial
T = 318 K T = 323 K
Liquid Used
Actual DAB (m2/s) Theoretical DAB (m2/s) Actual DAB (m2/s) Theoretical DAB (m2/s)
Toluene 0.005776 38.91168 0.00434 36.16616
Acetone 0.000194 51.24201 0.000157 47.26669
Ethanol 7.27E-06 58.72706 0.000889 54.15704
Hexane 0.000284 37.065 0.000247 34.25338
Methanol 0.000604 73.60703 0.000149 67.7905

From Table 2 the values of the actual diffusivity greatly differ from the theoretical value.
