Design of Connection:: 1. Connection Between Beam and Column Post

The document summarizes the design of connections between a beam and column, including the design of a base plate and anchor bolts. It determines that a 6mm weld thickness is sufficient to connect the beam and column based on load and stress calculations. It then sizes the base plate as 150x150x24mm based on the column reaction force of 64.44kN. Finally, it determines that 12 anchor bolts of 10mm diameter with a minimum embedment length of 89.07mm are sufficient to resist the uplift load of 64.44kN.

Design of Connection :

1. Connection between Beam and Column Post

Available length of welding = 450 mm

Assume Thickness of Welding = 6 mm
Load on beam member = 64.4 kN
Eccentricity from load to extreme fibre = 0m

Vertical shear stress at weld Ps= W/(2*d*t) = 71.56/t

Horizontal shear stress due to bending at extreme fibre

Pb= (6We)/(2*t*d2) = 1192.59/t
Resultant stress at extreme fibre Pr =√( 〖〗 ^2+ 〖〗 ^2 )
= 71.56/t
Here permssible Stress =108 mpa
71.56/t=108
t= 0.66 mm
There fore size of weld t/0.7 = 0.94 mm
Adopt thickness of weld = 6 mm

2. Design of Base Plate

Reaction of the column = 64.44 kn

Grade of concrete = 20 Mpa
Area of base plate = 0.03222 m2
Side of a square base 179.4993 mm
Adopt size of base plate = 150 150 mm
Thickness of base plate = 23.4 mm
Adopt thickness of base plate = 24 mm

Anchor Bolt
Upward reaction for load combination DL+Uplift = 64.44 kn
Grade of concrete used for anchorage (fck) = 20 n/mm2
Tensile stress for M20 Concrete Tbd = 1.92 n/mm2
Diameter of anchor bolt used = 10 mm
No of bolt used = 12
We know
Anchorage Strength of Anchor bolt = Tbd* surface area

So,
1.92 * 3.14*10*L>64.44*1000

L> 89.07 mm
Provide anchorage length > 89.07mm

2. Design of Base Plate

Length of Base Plate = 500 mm

Moment M= 103.684 kNm
Vertical Load P = 0.4705035 kN
M/P 220.3682 mm> 83.333333 L/6
x/3=l/2-M/P 29.631798 mm
x= 88.9 mm
σ*x*b/2=P b= 2.6463882 mm
