Section Plan
In the case of the upper figure, we shall check the level of Top and the level of Bottom.
When the duct size is 1000mm width and if there is no level difference of a duct 2000mm or
more, it is possible to connect by 90 deg elbow.
The direction of arrow of Down and Up must be the same as direction of air stream.
Because of the direction of an arrow of Exhaust Air and Intake Air are opposite/reverse, we have
to check the direction carefully.
Note
In case the level of a duct will be changed, we shall draw the section before layout plan.
mentioned on the plan but also it is smaller than our selection, we shall follow MBS design.
To prevent from self-generated noise by poor air flow conditions, the following duct velocities criteria shall be
followed:

We shall try to cancel sub-branch because we have to try to reduce the area of air duct.
Therefore we shall connect the Flex duct from Branch duct directly as below figure.
Moreover, we shall apply flex duct for Casino & Retail area as much as possible.
An example of duct size is as follows.
SPL-07/11-NDA-198\/conversion/tmp/scratch/405102559.doc Page 3 of 32
Note
Since, MBS’s duct size selection is wrong sometimes, we shall NOT trust MBS design
and our design checking is the must. However, in case duct size is mention on MBS
design and then duct size is smaller than our selection, we still can follow MBS design.
Moreover, we shall indicate the size of duct and air volume on our shop drawing
properly.

The angle of “Reducer” and “Enlargement” is set 30 degree.
As you can see, if we assume to apply 1000x150mm diffuser, we shall apply 2 nos. of 250mm
flexible duct for final connection. Moreover, capacity of 250mm flex duct is 0.123 m3/s
(441CMH).
SPL-07/11-NDA-198\/conversion/tmp/scratch/405102559.doc Page 10 of 32
Note
The final connection to the diffuser shall be connected by 2 to 3 nos. of flexible air duct.
In case of below figure, we shall keep the distance of pipe, even if pipe size will be changed due
to branch. After elbow, we shall change the distance of pipe according to the pipe specification
table.
Note
We shall consider the insulation thickness in our shop drawing.
SPL-07/11-NDA-198\/conversion/tmp/scratch/405102559.doc Page 11 of 32
9. Distance of Duct Arrangement
The distance of duct arrangement is shown as follows.
We shall arrange the distance with slab is at least 200mm. In general, we shall arrange 350mm.
The distance of 2 ducts shall be 350mm, since we have to consider for insulation work and sleeve
work.
Note
We shall consider the distance for insulation work and sleeve work.

11. Testing Point Layout
Note
Even if we provide testing point near elbow or reducer, it is useless for TnC work.
SPL-07/11-NDA-198\/conversion/tmp/scratch/405102559.doc Page 14 of 32
12. Air Duct Elbow
In case the width of air duct will be over 2000mm, the inside radius shall be 1000mm.
However the inside radius near ventilation fan shall be 0.75W.
If the inside radius is less than 0.25W, we shall consider to provide vanes.
(especially the air volume is huge.)
The friction coefficient in CIBSE Guide is shown as below.
Note
1) In generally, the inside radius of elbow shall be 0.5W as below.
2) In case the width of air duct will be over 2000mm, the inside radius shall be 1000mm.
SPL-07/11-NDA-198\/conversion/tmp/scratch/405102559.doc Page 15 of 32
12. Air Duct Elbow (Off-set)
Note
We shall consider the pressure loss of air duct in design stage.
SPL-07/11-NDA-198\/conversion/tmp/scratch/405102559.doc Page 16 of 32
13. Layer Arrangement for Services
We shall not design any water pipe pass above LMCP as below.
Even if the pipe pass above LMCP, We shall not arrange any fitting or valve above LMCP.
SPL-07/11-NDA-198\/conversion/tmp/scratch/405102559.doc Page 17 of 32
Note
We shall not arrange any water pipe pass above LMCP and Ele. Trunking.
We shall arrange the maintenance space for damper fuse. Therefore we shall provide Access panel
near FD.
We shall arrange some distance between the damper and ventilation fan, since air stream is
turbulent near the fan. Moreover, We shall provide the VD at suction side as below, since it is
easier for TnC work.
Note
We shall provide a damper at suitable location for damper operation, TnC and
Maintenance.
SPL-07/11-NDA-198\/conversion/tmp/scratch/405102559.doc Page 18 of 32
15. FCU Arrangement
We shall connect RA by plenum chamber. And we shall connect SA by flex duct through plenum
chamber. However, since the static pressure of FCU is not so big, in case the diffuser located far
from FCU, we shall extend SA duct and then connect flex duct.
Moreover, we shall arrange FCU level will be same level in zoning for easy installation, TnC and
maintenance.
CH pipe for FCU shall avoid the size changes as much as possible and then make it like a header
method. Moreover, we shall provide end-flange at end of pipe to carry out flashing easily in TnC
stage.
Note
We shall consider FCU layout will be able to suit any design change.
SPL-07/11-NDA-198\/conversion/tmp/scratch/405102559.doc Page 19 of 32
16. Fan Arrangement
In case Centrifugal fan, we shall connect the air duct as upper figure.
SPL-07/11-NDA-198\/conversion/tmp/scratch/405102559.doc Page 20 of 32
Moreover, we shall consider about the direction of discharge and duct layout.
Don’t connect like (e) and (f). AHU connection is also same thing.
We shall provide 4D straight duct at suction side to avoid turbulence and carry out TnC easily.
If not possible to provide straight duct, we shall consider to provide vanes at elbow.
Note
We shall consider VAV layout for TnC. Because if there is no straight duct at suction
side, the control of VAV will be difficult.
SPL-07/11-NDA-198\/conversion/tmp/scratch/405102559.doc Page 21 of 32
18. Water Pipe Arrangement
We shall arrange the pipe layout NOT to be cross over (Especially main pipes).
Note
Don’t reverse between supply and return pipe on shop drawing because we must avoid
misconnection in construction stage.
SPL-07/11-NDA-198\/conversion/tmp/scratch/405102559.doc Page 22 of 32
19. External Louver Arrangement
Design face velocity of Louver shall be 3m/s for supply and 4m/s for exhaust. (assume Opening
ration 35%)
(In parcel5 sepc, opening ration of louver is 60%. We have to confirm with consultant about this
issue.)
In case 2 nos. of air duct connected to 1 plenum chamber, we shall provide CD or partition inside
plenum. Moreover, we shall provide bird grille inside plenum chamber according to our spec.
Note
We shall consider rain -water will not come inside duct.
SPL-07/11-NDA-198\/conversion/tmp/scratch/405102559.doc Page 23 of 32
20. Isolation Valve and Air vent Arrangement
We shall provide isolation valve at each main branch. Moreover, in case pipe will be pass through
another floor, we shall provide isolation valve as well.
Don’t make up-down layout. If there is nothing, we shall provide air vent Not Auto air vent.
Note
Isolation valve and air vent is big item for TnC work. We shall consider TnC work well
on shop drawing.
