Data Communications Coursework2018 - 1a2-1

This document outlines the coursework requirements for the CI7110 Data Communications course at Kingston University's Faculty of Science, Engineering and Computing. It details that students must: 1) Demonstrate an initial MATLAB or Simulink simulation between two dates and email the code files by a deadline. 2) Submit an electronic copy of their assignment paper, which should be 5000 words on three aspects of data communications, by another deadline. The paper must include relevant MATLAB or Simulink simulations and analysis for two of the topics. 3) The document provides marking criteria for the demonstration and paper components of the coursework assignment.

KINGSTON UNIVERSITY

Faculty of Science, Engineering and Computing.

CI7110 Data Communications Coursework February 2018.

There are two parts to the coursework submission:

1. You must demonstrate your initial ‘MATLAB’ and / or ‘Simulink’ simulation or
implementation between 14:00 and 16:30 on Wednesday 21st March 2018 in PR SB 2024.
You must also E-mail your initial Simulink .slx and / or ‘MATLAB’ .m files to
[email protected] by 10.0 a.m. on 21st March 2018.

2. You must submit an electronic copy of your assignment paper via the Module Assignments
link by 10.0 a.m. on 18th April 2018. You must also E-mail an electronic copy of your
assignment paper to [email protected] by 10.0 a.m. on 18th April 2018. You
must also E-mail your Simulink .slx and / or ‘MATLAB’ .m files to
[email protected] by 10.0 a.m. on 18th April 2018.

Write a tutorial review paper of about 5000 words on three aspects of Data Communications. The
first part will be on Digital Communications, the second part on TCP/IP Networks and the third on
network security protocols. The three topics can be related or independent and should either
extend that presented in the module or be within the scope of Data Communications but have not
been covered in the lecture course.

The Digital Communications aspect should include some relevant simulation and / or analysis using
‘MATLAB’ or ‘Simulink’; details of how the simulation and / or analysis was performed as well as
results should be included. A listing of your ‘MATLAB’ code should be included in an appendix at the
end of the paper. You should also include a relevant simulation and analysis for the TCP/IP Networks
part. You can optionally include a simulation for the network security protocols aspect.

The paper should be presented in a similar form to that used for some journals, with two columns of
12 point text with headings of 14 bold point text and should be consistent with the following
guidelines:
Title of Paper in 16 bold point characters
Name of author
Abstract
Introduction
Section headings
Conclusion
References: Note use the ‘Harvard’ referencing system.

Marks will be awarded according to the following criteria:
