JH Art 8 Syllabus

JH 8 is a semester class that builds upon what was learned in JH

Art 7. You will be learning the Principles (how we use the
elements to draw or paint) of design in JH Art 8 while using a
variety of media (tools we use) and techniques (process we use
while drawing or painting).

What we will be studying:

Principles of Design
1. Rhythm
2. Pattern
3. Emphasis
4. Balance
5. Contrast
6. Unity
7. Variety

Absences: If you know you will be gone for any reason you will
need to have the work made up before you leave or are gone
(sketches). If you miss in class work on a project it is your
responsibility to come in before or after school to put in extra
work time. Everything except for sketches in in class do not waste
that time!

Standards of Excellence: Be on Time, Be Prepared (bringing a

pencil to class), Follow Classroom Instructions, Be Respectful, and
Clean Up After Yourself.

Behavior: Behavior is a very important component of the art

room. Students are to come to class prepared to work. If you are
late to class 3 times you will have to make up the time before or
after school. Each student is expected to be respectful of other
students, other students artwork and supplies in the room. An art
classroom is not a traditional classroom; students will be moving
around the room getting supplies and working on projects.

Grading: Each category will make up your final grade.

Quizzes 30 points (10%)
Projects 75 points (50%)
Worksheets 35 points (10%)
Sketches 25 points (20%)
Project Write Ups 40 points (10%)

Late Work: Unfinished sketches and/or projects will receive a

Hawk Room until complete.
