Diode Circuit Models PDF

This document discusses three diode equivalent circuit models: the ideal diode model, simplified diode model, and linear diode model. The ideal diode model assumes a diode has zero threshold voltage and no resistance when forward biased or open circuit when reverse biased. The simplified diode model assumes a diode has a threshold voltage of 0.3V for Germanium or 0.7V for Silicon but no forward resistance. The linear diode model considers both threshold voltage and forward resistance.

Ideal Diode Model
 the diode is assumed to have a zero threshold voltage,
VTH = 0
 has no resistance when forward biased
 assumed to be open – circuit when reverse biased
 Assumptions:
 VTH = 0V (threshold voltage)
 RF = 0 (forward resistance)
 RR =  (reverse resistance)
Ideal Diode Model
Simplified Diode Model
 the diode is assumed to have a threshold voltage, VTH but
has no resistance when forward biased, and open circuit
when reverse biased
 Assumptions:
 VTH = 0.3V for Ge
 VTH = 0.7V for Si
 RF = 0  (forward resistance)
 RR =  (reverse resistance)
Simplified Diode Model
Linear Diode Model
 the diode’s threshold voltage, VTH and forward resistance
are considered
 Assumptions:
 VTH = 0.3V for Ge
 VTH = 0.7V for Si
 RF > 0 (forward resistance)
 RR =  (reverse resistance)
