Unusual friends

Tom and Jerry is an American series of short animated films, starring a cat (Tom) and a mouse
(Jerry). Tom and Jerry cartoons are famous all over the world and almost everyone knows Tom
and Jerry because they have seen them on television. The plot is almost always the same. The
cat wants to catch the mouse but something bad always happens to the cat and he never catches
the mouse. The cat always loses in the end and the mouse wins. There is sometimes a lot of
violence but, in reality, the cat and the mouse like each other and are good friends. Two
American cartoonists, William Hanna and Joseph Barbera, created Tom and Jerry for MGM
studios. Hanna was born in New Mexico, in 1910, and Barbera was born in New York, in 1911.
The two men met in 1937 in Los Angeles, California, when they were working in the same film
studio. In fact, they were working at desks opposite each other. Hanna and Barbera soon started
working together making animated films. They made the first Tom and Jerry cartoon in 1940. It
was called Puss Gets the Boot. In total, more than 160 episodes of Tom and Jerry were made
and Hanna and Barbera made 130 of them. In 1965, Tom and Jerry was shown on television for
the first time and in 1992 a full-length film was made, called Tom and Jerry: The Movie. Tom and
Jerry won seven Oscars for the best short cartoon between 1943 and 1952 and received six
