FEM RACKING AND SHELVING
PRODUCT GROUP CODES
Our FEM codes, and indeed some National Codes, have been in use for many years providing
effective guidance on the design and use of storage equipment and continue to be available as
voluntary standards in the marketplace. However the subject matter within the FEM Codes has
now been covered in more up to date forms in other more recent CEN Standards
The codes continue to be available for the time being as perfectly good documents particularly for
those who need to know the history of code developments or alternatively need to understand how
matters were considered historically on old structures
Relevant current EN standards, available from National Standards Bodies, are:
EN 15095: Power operated mobile racking and shelving, carousels and storage lifts –
safety Equipment
EN 15512: Steel static storage systems – adjustable pallet racking systems – principles for
structural design
EN 15620: Steel static storage systems – adjustable pallet racking systems – tolerances
deformations and clearances
EN15629: Steel static storage systems – specification of storage equpment equipment
EN 15635: Steel static storage systems – application and maintenance of storage equipment
EN 15878: Steel static storage systems – adjustable pallet racking systems – terms and
definitions (available end of 2010)

FEM CODES ‐ SUMMARY
10.02.02 – the design of static steel pallet racking.
This document has been prepared by working group 2 (WG2) of Section X of FEM, (former Racking
and Shelving Product Group) and deals with the requirements of the design of static steel pallet
racking. A clear understanding of these aspects is required for the provision of safe storage design as
a compliment to the safe working conditions of the product.
10.02.03 – Guidelines for the safe provision of static steel racking and shelving, specifiers
guidelines.
This document has been prepared by working group 2 (WG2) of Section X of FEM, (former Racking
and Shelving Product Group) and deals with the end user defined aspects. A clear specification of all
relevant aspects is essential for the provision of safe storage equipment design and to compliment
safe working conditions. This specifiers guide is also intended as a consultative document on these
aspects of static steel racking and static steel shelving for users, consultants, and racking suppliers.
10.02.04 – Guidelines for safe use of static steel racking and shelving, Users guide.
This FEM document has been prepared by working group 2 (WG2) of Section X of FEM, (former
Racking and Shelving Product Group) and deals with the end user defined aspects. A clear
specification of all relevant aspects is essential for the provision and a continuing safe storage
equipment environment and to compliment safe working conditions. The user’s guide is also
intended as a consultative document on these aspects of static steel racking and static steel shelving
for specifiers, consultants, and racking suppliers.
10.02.06 – The Design of Hand Loaded steel Static Shelving.
This FEM document has been prepared by working group 2 (WG2) of Section X of FEM, (former
Racking and Shelving Product Group) and deals with the requirements of the design of Hand Loaded
steel Static Shelving Design. A clear understanding of these aspects is required for the provision of
safe storage design as a compliment to the safe working conditions of the product.
10.03.01 – Adjustable Beam Pallet Racking – Tolerances, Deformations and Clearances
This document has been produced by the technical committee of Section X of FEM, (former Racking
and Shelving Product Group) and is intended to assist project engineers, purchasers and other
specifiers of adjustable pallet racking (APR) in the execution of their work.
