Week 3: Chain Surveying  

Vocabulary 

Chain surveying: a surveying method where chain/tape is use to take measurements. 

Heck lines: the lines which are run in the field to check the accuracy of the work. 

Tie lines: a line which joins subsidiary or tie stations on the main line. The main objective of a tie line is 
to take the details of nearby objects but it also serves the purpose of a check line. 

Base line: The line on which the framework of the survey is built is known as the “base line”. Generally, 
the longest of the main survey lines is considered as the base line.
