Chiang Rai Municipality School 6 Daily Lesson Plan Science 2

This daily lesson plan outlines a science class for Mattayom 1 students on motion, including scalar and vector quantities, distance, and displacement. The objectives are for students to classify scalars and vectors, understand distance and displacement, and calculate distance and displacement. The lesson involves dividing students into groups to classify cards as scalar or vector, demonstrating and discussing distance and displacement, working problems, and a test. Students are assigned reading for the next lesson on heat.

DAILY LESSON PLAN

SCIENCE 2

Date : January 2019

Class/ Period : Mattayom 1

I. Objectives
By the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
1. classify scalar and vector quantities;
2. understand the distance and displacement;
3. calculate the distance and displacement of a moving object.

II. Subject Matter

a. Topic : Motion (scalar and vector quantities, distance and displacement)
b. Concepts :
 a scalar is a quantity that communicates a particular size or magnitude.
These can be things like the mass of a book, the amount of time you spend
watching movies, or the temperature outside today. These are numerical
quantities along with any relevant units that simply answer question “how
much?”
 Scalar quantity : area, density , energy, length, mass, speed, temperature,
time, volume.
 Vector quantity has magnitude and direction, the answer question “how
much? And which way”.
 Vector quantity : displacement, acceleration, force, velocity, momentum.
 Distance is defined as the length of the actual path traveled by an object
from one location to another. (Scalar quantity).
 Displacement is the length of the path traveled by an object in a specific
direction. The length of this path is measured from the object’s initial
position to its final position in a straight line (vector quantity).
c. Reference :
 Holt, Rinehart & Winston. 2005. Physical Science (interactive book)
Texas : a Harcrout Education Company.
 Focus SMART textbook.
 Internet
d. Material : laptop, worksheet, projector, marker, cards

III. Learning Tasks

a. Motivation 10’
 Show the example of the scalar and vector quantities such as temperature
degree, situation that show direction and magnitude, and ask what is the
different?
b. Learning proper 50’
 The teacher divides students in a group of ±2
 The teacher will distribute the cards and ask students to classify into vector
and scalar.
 After that, the teacher will discuss the correct answer.
 The next lesson is distance and displacement, the teacher ask 2 volunteers
to come forward to demonstrate about distance and displacement.
 After that, teacher will give problems and let student calculate the answer
of distance and displacement.
 Next, the teacher will let the student show their answer and write it on the
board then discuss their answer for correction.
 The teacher gives a test to student.
 Student summarizes and do reflection after the lesson.

IV. Evaluation
Worksheet scalar and vector (cards), test distance and displacement(individual)

V. Assignment
Ask students to read for the next lesson – Heat, pages …… to ……. .
