Experiment No. 9: Aim: Tools Used: Theory
Aim: To design and simulate CS- amplifier and calculate transconductance using Cadence virtuoso.
Theory:
CS AMPLIFIER
The common-source(CS) or grounded- source configuration is the most widely used of all MOSFET
amplifier circuits. To establish a signal ground at the source, we have to connect a large capacitor
between the source and ground. This capacitor is called the bypass capacitor. It has a very high input
resistance, moderately high voltage gain and a relatively high output resistance. The CS configuration is
the best suited for obtaining the bulk of the gain that is required in an amplifier. Depending on the gain
required either a single CS stage or a cascade of CS stages has to be used. Including a series resistance in
the source lead of the MOSFET, called the degeneration resistance due to its negative feedback effect,
provides a number of improvements in the performance like the bandwidth, stability and decrease in the
non-linear distortions as well as noise.
