Soil samples in clear bottles(prepared ahead of time)
3 pcs. Empty clear bottles/jars or cups ( same size)
3 pcs. Plastic spoon
3 pcs. Short bond paper
Hand lens, permanent markers, popsipcle sticks, hand shovel
A pair of gloves
Manila paer and wristh watch or stop watch

D. Science Concept:
 Soil- covers most of the land part of the earth.
 Clay- Particles are packed together tightly. It is sticky when wet and has the
finest texture.
 Loam- it is mixture of sand and clay.
 Sand-particles are coarse and loose.
E. Science Processes: observing, describing, inferring, comparing, experimenting,
communicating, discussing, & demonstrating.

III. Developmental Activities

1. Procedure:
A. Mood setting
B. Drill (Show me Pictures)
 The teacher will show pictures of different types of soil with scrambled
letter as their clues.
 The teacher will ask the pupils and answer the given questions in the
form of draw lots.

1.
L O I S

2.
C Y A L

3.
M O A L

4.

N A D S

C. Review
 The teacher will ask questions regarding the past lesson.
 Show me the correct emotions as I give you the questions.
Direction: Open your mouth and smile if the statement is correct (happy face) and sad face
if the statement is wrong.
1. Light always travels on a straight light ( )

2. The light that strikes a thick cardboard bends and find another way to pass through
it ( )

3. Echo is a term used for the sound that is reflected back to its source. ( )

4. Refraction is the bouncing back of light that strikes a clear surface. ( )

D. Motivation:
 The teacher will present a picture of a man planting a corn.
 What do you think a man doing?
 What kind of plant he planted?
 Do you think this corn will grows everywhere?
 Why do farmer mostly considered the types of soil while planting?

2. Presentation/Discussion:
The teacher will discuss further about the types of soil and it’s characteristic

Soil- covers most of the land part of the earth. You find plants, animals, houses
and other organism on the soil.
-we live on the soil and it helps us in many ways.

A. Activity Proper:
Setting Standards
Distribution of Group Activity card
The pupils will be divided into three groups
Each group will perform the given task
Directions:
 Be with your group all the time and stay in your assigned area in the
school for 20 minutes.
 Collect three samples of soil in your area and place each on separate
cups/container.
 Label each sample with a, b, c
 Scoop atleat two tablespoon of soil from each sample.
 Place each sample on a separate bond paper.
 Using hand lens and a Popsicle stick, observe each sample.
 Write your observations on your science notebook using the table
below and write the same on the manila paper for posting and
reporting in the class.
 Present a yell before doing your report.

Each group will be provided a table for them to be guided:

Soil CHARACTERISTICS ANSWER

A

Group 1- Lights Camera Action

(Identify/Demonstrate types of soil through Role playing)
Group 2-I am the Reporter
(Identify/Demonstrate types of soil through
discussion/presentation)
Group 3-Draw me
(Identify/Demonstrate types of soil through drawing)

B. Analysis/Discussion:
 What types of soil in soil sample labeled A?
 What types of soil in soil sample labeled B?
 What types of soil in soil sample labeled C?
 How can you identify the types of soil?
We can identify the types of soil by looking into it
characteristics.
 What is the importance of your group activity?
Through this activity we may able to realize the importance
of knowing the types of soil.

C. Values Integration:
 How importance soil in all living organism?
Soil is one of the most important elements for us to live.
We live in soil and it helps us in many ways.
D. Abstraction:
 What do you think will happen if we don’t have soil?
Probably, there were no living organisms exist.
No shelter, no plants, and no foods to eat.
E. Generalization:
 What are the types of soil?
There are three basic types of soil: clay, loam and sand
soil. But, most soils are composed of a combination of
the different types.
 What should we do to easily identify the types of soil?

By simply looking its color, texture, and soil

characteristics and its water holding capacity.

F. Application:
The teacher will give the ff. questions:
 Covers most of land part of the earth?
Answer: Soil
