A Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan

in
Grade III – Religion

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the pupils are expected to
a. understand that Jesus came to call sinners, not those who think they are already good
enough
b. experience Jesus’ healing in the Sacrament of Reconciliation
c. forgive one another

II. Subject Matter


a. Topic: Our Sins Weakens Us, We Need Jesus to Strengthen Us

c. Materials: visual aids, balloon, marker, activity sheet
d. Value Focus: Humility and Forgiveness

III. Process
A. Preliminary Activities
- Prayer
- Checking of attendance

B. Motivation
- Show to the class pictures which portrays simple acts of kindness

C. Presentation
- Tell the story of a boy and a girl who have sinned and went to their teacher to ask her
advice.
- Ask them the following questions:
o What kind of stones do you carry?
o What can we do to reduce the load of sin that we are carrying?

D. Discussion
- Tell the story of Jesus eating with tax collectors and sinners.
- After which, ask them the following questions:
o Whom did Jesus call and eat with?
o What did the Pharisees say?
o What did Jesus answer them?
o What is the meaning of the words of Jesus?
o Is Jesus calling you today?

E. Generalization
- A sin is an offense against the law of God which separates us from God. It does great
damage to our life, and it weakens our capability to be good to others.
- A healer is one who cures an illness. Jesus is the Divine Healer. He came to heal our
sinfulness because He loves us.
- All we need to do is realize and admit that we did wrong and be sorry for our sins
(contrition). The priest’s absolution brings us Jesus’ forgiveness after we confess our
sins.
- Jesus, through the Sacrament of Reconciliation, helps us to throw away the heavy
stones, our sins and heals us. The Sanctifying Grace that we lost because of our big sins
is restored to us.

F. Application
- Let them play the game called “Hot Feeling”
- Let them answer the following questions:
o Who are the people whom you dislike and are disliked by the class and people
around you?
o What will you do to act like Jesus?
o What would you want if you were one of those disliked?

IV. Evaluation

I. Draw a star before the sentence if it is true. If the sentence is wrong, underline the word that
makes it wrong and write the correct word in the blank before the sentence.

V. Agreement

Make a bookmark.
Bookmark Making Procedure:
1. Draw a biblical symbol of peace and forgiveness on the front of the bookmark.
2. At the back, write your personal message of forgiveness or asking forgiveness from
someone in the family.
3. Share the bookmark with the rest of the family.
