Usage General-purpose lifecycle data integration architecture for process plant information.
Scope ISO 15926 is an International Standard for the representation of lifecycle information for process plants, including oil and gas production
facility. This is specified by a generic, conceptual data model that is suitable as the basis for implementation in a shared database or data
warehouse.

ISO 15926 is divided into a number of parts.

• ISO 15926-1 Overview - Overview and fundamental principle

• ISO 15926-2 Data Model - specifies a generic, conceptual data model that supports representation of all lifecycle aspects of an oil
and gas production facility or a process plant. This model is also the basis for ISO 10303-221. The basis of this model is the EPISTLE
Core Model (ECM).
• ISO 15926-4 Reference Data - defines the initial set of standard reference data for oil and gas production facilities. This part is also
known as the EPISTLE Reference Data Library (ERDL). It defines standard data model terminology that is used with the Part 2 core
data model. It is a managed collection of process plant lifecycle data classes which are common to many process plants or of interest
to many users.
• ISO 15926-5 Registration Procedure - specifies the procedures to be followed for registration and maintenance of reference data.
• ISO 15926-6 Reference Data Additions - specifies the scope and information required when defining additions to the ISO 15926
reference data library 6
• ISO-15926-7Implementation in OWL+RDF - specifies the methods by which part 2 and part 4 can be implemented using Semantic
Web technologies defined by W3C.

The data model of ISO 15926-2 is generic and highly normalized. Next to this being an advantage (scope changes do not result in data
model changes) it is difficult to implement in a standard manner, because it nearly has the flexibility of a natural language. Therefore
the concept of 'templates', standardized 'sentences' using ISO 15926-2 ‘grammar’ and ISO 15926-4 ‘words’ has been introduced in ISO
15926 Part 7.

ISO 15926-7 specifies implementation methods for integration, sharing, exchange, and hand-over of lifecycle information about process
plants, based on the data model of ISO 15926-2.
Overview of ISO 15926-7

The following is within the scope of this part of ISO 15926:

Benefits Increases the cost efficiency of oil and gas facilities.
• Significant cost savings are expected from standardization of component specifications
• Design can be progressed in parallel with other engineering, planning, and logistical activities
• Improved efficiency and effectiveness of the operational phase of the plant
• Allows for statistical analysis resulting in discovery of knowledge
