Introduction: Below are some common questions that are asked concerning the Gifted
and Talented Program. The information below applies to the Fourth Grade students only.
Definition of Giftedness: The term gifted and talented refers to students who show
evidence of superior intellectual ability and potential in specific academic domains and
demonstrate abilities such as leadership, creativity, problem solving, and critical thinking.
These children require additional academic services provided in addition to their regular
classroom environment.
8. How do I go about having my child considered for G&T if they are new to
the district and/or were in a gifted program in another district?
The district policy states that all new entrants to the district will be given the
opportunity to take the Gifted and Talented entrance exam. A letter detailing the
evaluation procedure will be mailed home. From there the student must meet the
necessary criteria.
9. How is my child re-evaluated for G&T if they did not meet the requirements
at their first eligibility?
If your son’s or daughter’s composite score is 80% or higher he/she may be re-
evaluated. Students who received a composite score of 80 or above and did not
originally qualify may be re-evaluated as a 4th grader.
10. What responsibilities does a child have upon being admitted to the
program?
G&T students are responsible for completing assignments and maintaining above
average grade level performance in both their home classroom and G&T.
11. Once admitted, is a child in the G&T Program for the remainder of the
school year?
All G&T students are evaluated each trimester. All current G&T students will be
monitored throughout the year. If it is determined that they are underperforming
in the classroom or G&T, he/she will no longer be eligible to continue in the
program.
