Peoples Journal, Mar. 12, 2019, Rice Tariffication To Protect Farmers PDF
1) The newly implemented Rice Tariffication Law is intended to eventually benefit Filipino farmers and allow them to compete with farmers in Vietnam and Thailand, according to legislators.
2) Rep. Rosanna Vergara initially opposed the bill but was convinced that the taxes collected from rice imports will be used to provide farmers with hybrid rice seeds and mechanization support through the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund.
3) Vergara will ensure as a member of the House rules committee that the PHP18 billion RCEF is properly used to help farmers as intended by the law.
