Problem Statement 1
Problem Statement 1
World’s primary energy and electricity consumption, both are rising every day. However, a huge number of
people, around 1.5 billion, are still living without electricity. The dependency on fossil fuels and their
diminishing reserves have brought the man to the start of a new race, the race of efficient utilization of
renewable resources. Increasing pollution and global warming are pushing us more towards alternate energy
resources. Despite a huge potential of renewable resources in Pakistan particularly solar which is not very
much location dependent like wind and hydel, the utilization is negligible.
Concentrated solar power (CSP) systems generate solar power by using mirrors or lenses to concentrate a
large area of sunlight, or solar thermal energy, onto a small area. Electricity is generated when the
concentrated light is converted to heat, which drives a heat engine. The available solar radiation in most of
the areas of Pakistan is very suitable to run a standalone CSP system that can generate emission free
electricity with the help of which villages that are far away from national grid can easily be electrified.
Therefore, in this work, we are presenting a feasibility study of a CSP plant for a location near Multan,
Pakistan. This work can be utilized to design a very first CSP plant in Pakistan, and can be very helpful to
