Lesson Plan in Math Vi: Objectives

The lesson plan teaches students about discounts by having them solve word problems involving percentages. It begins with introducing the objectives and subject matter. Then, it outlines the procedure which includes reviewing discounts, solving sample problems, and defining key terms. Students will analyze sample problems, derive the discount formula, and practice applying it. They will generalize the concepts, complete independent practice problems, and be evaluated on additional word problems. Finally, students will complete a table calculating discounts and sale prices.

 LESSON PLAN IN MATH VI

 Objectives
o State the formula in finding discount
o Solve problems involving discount
o Share ways on how to save money

 Subject Matter
 Word Problems Involving Percent (Discount)
 RBEC Math VI L.3.4.2
 chart, pictures, newspaper, chalkboard
 Wise use of money/Thrift

 Procedure
 Preparatory Activities
 Review

 Show a mystery picture and let students solve the following to identify the name of the
man in the picture.
 1) 50% of 110 (E) 4) 25% of 84 (N)
 2) 20% of 80 (Y) 5) 30% of 90 (S)
 3) 15% of 20 (H) 6) 85% of 100 (R)

 _____ _____ _____ _____ _____ _____ _____

 (3) (55) (21) (85) (16) (27) (16)

 Motivation

 Discuss that the man in mystery picture is Henry Sy, the owner of SM Malls and the
richest man in the Philippines. Share his successful life story to the students.
 Valuing: What do you think made Henry Sy successful? Was he wise in managing his
money? In what way can we manage and save our money?

 Ask: Do you go to malls like SM or Robinson? Have you gone to a mall-wide sale? Why
do people like going to a sale?

 Developmental Activities
 Activity

 Presentation
 Present the following problem:

 Joel went to a sale at SM. He saw a T-shirt that costs P350 with 20% discount.
 How much is the discount? The sale price?

 Define the terms discount, original/old price, discount rate and the sale/new price to
the students
 Let students identify the terms in the given problem.

 2) Analysis

 Analyze the problem using block model approach.

 80%  20%
 (New/Sale Price)  (Discount)

 100%
 (Old/Original Price)

 3) Abstraction and Comparison

 Have students derive the formula of solving the discount using Techan’s triangle.

 

 P=BxR
 Discount = Original Price x Discount Rate

 Let students solve the problem using the derived formula.

 Discount = Original Price x Discount Rate
o = P350 x 20%
o = P70
 Sale Price = Original Price – Discount
o = P350 – P70
o = P280

 Therefore, Joel got P70 discount and paid P280.

 4) Application
 Exercises (Pair-Share Activity)
 Solve for the discount and the sale price of the following items:
 Item  Original Price  Discount Rate

 1. Blouse  P400  50%

 2. Pants  P950  20%

 3. Socks  P90  15%

 4. Cap  P150  30%

 5. Jacket  P1200  10%

 5) Generalization

 Ask: What is the formula in solving discount? New/sale price?

 Reinforcement Activities
 Independent Practice
 Solve the following word problems independently:
 Lotlot wants to buy a doll worth P800 with 50% off. What is the new
price of the doll?
 A set of utensils is on sale with 12% discount. How much is the
discount if the original price is P500?
 Kiko buys a pair of shoe which is on sale with 10% discount. How
much will he pay in the cashier if the shoe originally costs P1500?

 Evaluation

 Solve the following problems:

 Mr. Yu bought a rice cooker which costs P600. How did he pay if
the rice cooker had 30% discount?
 A dress costs P750 with 20% discount. How much is the new price?
 Boyet wants to buy a toy truck worth P800 with 40% off. What
is the new price of the toy truck?
 A pair of sandals is on sale with 15% discount. How much is the
discount if the original price is P240?
 Liza buys a dress which is on sale with 50% discount. How much
will she pay in the cashier if the dress originally costs P1000?

 Assignment

 Complete the table:

 Item  Original  Discount  Discount  New
Price Rate Price

 1. TV  P300  30%  P90 

 2.  P250  50%   P125

Cellphone
 3. Lotion  P80  25%   P20

 4. Plate  P350  70%  P245 

 5. Skirt  P1500  20%   P1200
