A Burglary

Burglars broke into Dan's house while he was at football practice and his parents were at work. They stole many household items, including a picture of a lion that was Dan's mother's favorite, a blue lamp from his grandmother's house, blankets, pillows, their washing machine, and even their entire fridge. Dan has no clean clothes left and Sarah suggests they go to her house to eat since the burglars took Dan's fridge and there is food at her place.

Sarah: Wow, Dan. Your house looks different.
Dan: I know. There was a burglary last week.
Sarah: A burglary? Really?
Dan: Yes, some time on Thursday afternoon.
Sarah: Where were you? Were you at home?
Dan: No, I wasn’t. I’ve got football practice on Thursday afternoon and my parents were at work. The burglars were
probably here for a long time, because they were in every room in the house.
Sarah How many burglars were there? Do the police know?
Dan: There were probably a number of burglars, because many things are missing from the house.
Sarah: I can see! Where is that beautiful picture of a lion? And where’s the big blue lamp?
Have the burglars got it, too?
Dan: They’ve got the picture of the lion and the lamp. My mother is really angry. The picture was her favourite
picture in the house, and the lamp was from her grandmother’s house.
Sarah: From her grandmother? That’s terrible.
Dan: They’ve also got our blankets and our pillows. I can’t sleep without a pillow.
Sarah: Blankets and pillows? That’s really strange. Burglars usually take expensive things.
Dan: Oh, they’ve got expensive things, too, like our washing machine.
Sarah: Your washing machine? Really?
Dan: Yes, and I haven’t got any clean clothes. I don’t know what to wear for school tomorrow.
Sarah: Well, then you must stay home tomorrow.
Dan: Now that’s a good idea. Have you got any other suggestions?
Sarah: Yes. Let’s have something to eat. I’m really hungry.
Dan: Sorry, Sarah, but the burglars have got our fridge, too!
Sarah: Your fridge? I can’t believe it. Well, we’ve got a fridge and there’s food in it. Let’s go to my house. I’m so
hungry!
