Blog Lesson
Blog Lesson
Universal Design for Learning (UDL): This activity is good for students with multiple learning styles. By writing
a blog, it helps students who are usually quite during class discussions, express their thoughts behind a screen.
For visual learners, students can increase font sizes and add pictures to their blogs since it is customizable. For
auditory learners, students could use a text to talk feature that would read what they wrote out loud.
Lesson idea implementation: Prior to this lesson, students would come up with a week-long fitness routine
that best suits them. Each day while they do their fitness routine, students will reflect by writing a blog post
each day about their experience. Some questions include; What struggles did you face? How did you overcome
them? Describe how you felt after you completed the workout. Compare the beginning of your workout to the
end. Which activity was your favorite and why? What did you observe about your fitness level while
completing these workouts?
The students will be doing the fitness activities during class and will fill out their blog each day for homework.
The project will be presented after students have created a solid workout routine for themselves. This project
will be a total of five days that will include a total of five blog posts. Student learning will be assessed by
reviewing students blog posts and providing individual congruent feedback about their posts.
I can extend student learning by providing higher ordered thinking questions such as the ones stated above so
students can increase their learning level. By doing this, it requires students to think deeper than just
answering basic questions. It requires students to apply, analyze, and evaluate rather than just recall facts.
I will conclude the lesson by having students write a blog post comparing the different days and talk about
their overall experience. Students will then be asked to share their experiences with the class if they desire.
Feedback will be provided to students individually on each of their blog posts. During the fitness activities, I
can also walk around the room and encourage students.

Classroom Blog and Website Creation Tools
Importance of technology: Since technology has become apart of every day life, it’s important to incorporate
it into classrooms to relate to students. By having students create blogs, it also allows them to decorate it and
organize the way that they like. This lesson could be done without technology by having students write their
journals on paper. However, having them do the blog posts is more meaningful and gets them more engaged
in their work.
Other types of technology I could use with this lesson is heart rate monitors. It can track how long students are
in the zone which would give them more to write about in their blog posts.
Internet Safety and Student Privacy: Some possible issues with an online blog is that it may be public, and
everyone has access to it. This may violate student internet safety and privacy. After analyzing EduBlogs, there
are settings that allow limited access to your information which the instructor would choose who is allowed
access to it. If someone wanted access to it, they would have to go through the teacher. You can also minimize
student’s risks by providing students with secure websites to get information from to prevent students from
running into falsified information.
Reflective Practice: I think the activities I created could impact student learning because it requires higher
ordered thinking and analysis of their workout and fitness experience. This lesson would be at the end of a
fitness unit, but I could further extend it by talking about goal setting. I could have students create a SMART
goal to upkeep their workout plan. Other technology I could incorporate is Nearpod to discuss SMART goals
and then students can create a blog post stating what their SMART goal is and the steps they will take to
achieve it.
