INSTRUCTIONS
FOGN. This program was written to speed up the creation of points based army lists for Field of Glory Napoleonic, and to a
be printed out. It allows selections by using simple pull-down lists and automatically adds up the points totals for each arm
program to work properly.

QUICK START. To see how quick the generation of labels is from an army list, click on a tab (e.g. "1815 French") and then cl
top of the army list. In a few seconds you will see a set of labels. If you then make changes to the army list and press the "C

CREATE A NEW ARMY WORKSHEET. To create a new Army worksheet, for a new list, then press the "New Army Sheet" butt
on every Army worksheet. You will then be asked to type a name for the new Army worksheet. This name must be differen

CHANGING THE DEFAULT ARMY WORKSHEET. If you want to change the default values for the new Army sheet, then unhid
the risk of accidental changes, the "Blank" worksheet is hidden. The worksheet can be unhidden by right clicking on any of
"Unhide...". A list of hidden worksheets will be shown. Select the appropriate worksheet from the list and it will become un
your new default sheets. Hide the worksheet again once you have made your changes.

COPYING A WORKSHEET. If you want to copy a worksheet right click on the tab containing the worksheet name (e.g. 1813

HEADER DESCRIPTIONS

HEADER DESCRIPTIONS. Information in the header section of the Army List is used to identify the list. Some information is
information in the header is useful when generating the list and playing the game.
Nation: Pull-down list. Used to select the nation for your army. The nation name will appear on the labels.
After selecting a nation, the colours will automatically change on the top and bottom lines to help you distinguish between

Army: Free form (type in what you want). Often used for name of the army. This army name will appear on the generated l
"ARMY OF THE SOUTH", "VI Corps", "Joe's Army".
Notes: Free form (type in what you want). This short note will appear on the generated labels. For example, "ALBUERA, 16

Teritory: Pull-down list. The territory that the army will normally appear in, or can be the territory you have decided for thi
Other Notes: Free form. Cells D4:D6. Used for any summary notes. These notes do not appear on the generated labels.
ACV: Automatically calculated. Army Combat Value. These numbers are automatically generated from the Army List. The n
points added to the ACV if defending in a game where the attacker has gained an extra 40 points of troops. The total ACV v
The other values are calculated for convenicence in determining winning conditions.

Initiative: Free form. Usually you type in the army initiative which can be found in the FOGN army lists. This value is used in
attacker and who will be the defender.
Command Bases: Automatically calculated. This counts the number of command bases in your Army List. This is for conven
command bases to pack before using your army.
Attachment Bases: Automatically calculated. This counts the number of attachment bases in your Army List. This is for con
attachment bases to pack before using your army.
Troop Bases: Automatically calculated. This counts the number of normal bases in your Army List. This is for convenience s
pack before using your army. Note that this includes all the bases needed if no attachments were used. In play, some of the
attachments.

Army Points. Automatically calculated. The total points cost of the Army List. A typical small game will use 800 point armie

COLUMN DESCRIPTIONS. Use the pull-down boxes in each cell to select the appropriate commander or troop type. The co

Command. Pull-down list. This is to select the commander (Corps or Division), quality (Level 1, 2 or 3), whether Charismati

shown as "Ch". Allied is shown as "A". For example, DC2A Ch is Division Commander (Skilled) Allied.

Troop Type. Pull-down list. This is to select the base troop type. This includes the valid mixed formations (such as mixed lig
has skirmish capability and/or rifles.
If you wish to show attachments that are allocated after terrain placement, but before any units are placed, then select "Att
found at the very bottom of the "Troop Type" pull-down list. Make sure columns D, E, F, G and H are blank. Then select the
down list in the "Attachment" column. A separate label will be generated for this entry.

Name. Free form. This is usually for the name of the formation. For example, 8eme Légère or 5th Light Dragoons or Fred's

Size. Pull-down list. Used to select whether the unit is Large or Small.
Training. Pull-down list. Used to select the training (Veteran, Drilled, Conscript or Irregular) for the unit.
Elan. Pull-down list. Used to select the elan (Superior, Average or Poor) for the unit.
Guard. Pull-down list. Select whether the unit is a Guard or Line (non-Guard) formation.
Attachment. Pull-down list. Used to select the correct combination of attachments for the unit.
Bases. Formula. The number of bases will automatically be calculated. This is the standard number of bases in the unit, no
required by attachments.
Points. Formula. The points cost of the formation is automatically calculated. For Commanders this includes their type, leve
this includes Size, Training, Elan, whether Guard or not and Attachments.
TOTALS. At the top right of each order of battle sheet are 4 totals that are automatically calculated. These are provided for
assembling an army :-
Command Bases. Formula. The total number of command bases in the army. Officer attachments are not included in this

Attachment Bases. Formula. The total number of attachment bases in the army. Officer attachments are counted here, not
Troop Bases. Formula. The total number of troop bases in the army. This number does not include the total of command o
in the above totals. If an attachment is lost during the battle, then it must be replaced with an ordinary troop stand for tha
both. The Troop bases are counted here and the Attachments are counted in the "Attachment Bases" total.

For example, an "army" that consists of a Division Commander, 2 small infantry units (4 bases each) with no attachments, 1
Skirmish attachment and 1 small cavalry unit with an Officer attachment will count as 1 Command Base (the DC), 2 Attachm
Officer) and 14 troop bases.

Points. Formula. Above the points column is the total of the points for all commanders and units.
Men. This is a handy column if you are converting a historical order of battle. The number will be black if the size of an Infa
number. Otherwise the text will automatically show as red (this is done using conditional formatting). A small Infantry unit
unit is 2,000 to 3,000 men. A small Cavalry unit is 500 to 899 men. A large Cavalry unit is 900 to 1,200 men.

RED CELL ERROR. If there is an entry for both a commander ("Command" column) and a troop selection ("Troop Type" colu
will be highlighted red to show the error. Simply use the pull down box to select the blank option at the top of the pull-dow
"Cmd" or "Troop Type" cell you do not want. The red highlight will disappear and the points totals will now be correct.

When a "Troop Type" cell is blank, the contents of other cells (such as Training and Elan) are not erased, but the lettering i
background so they cannot be seen. This is for convenience. They are correctly ignored for points calculations, but will app

ADD LINES. To add additional lines, insert new lines between the highlighted header and footer. This keeps the formula for
containing the formulas and formatting.
REMOVE LINES. If you do not want some of the lines in an army list, then you have 3 options. Delete lines you do not want
cells. Or clear the "Cmd" and "Troop Type" cells then hide the row. Remember if you hide a row that still has a selection of
points will still be counted in the total and you will get very confused because you cannot see that row until you unhide it.

CAUTION. Do not delete cells with formulas in, otherwise the spreadsheet will not work correctly.
CAUTION. ARRAY FORMULAS. Some of the formulas used for calculation of points and selections are array formulas. These
