WELCOME!

Miss Bierne’s First Day of School


The Start of School
• The procedure will be posted in the classroom as well as outside the door until it
has become a routine.
• Procedure for the start of school:
1. Remove and hang up coat or jacket
2. Take out necessary materials from backpack and hang backpack up
3. Stand in front of cubby or locker
4. Quietly enter the classroom upon teacher dismissal
5. Do attendance and lunch count
6. Turn in homework
7. Look at agenda
8. Begin Welcome Activity
The Agenda
• The agenda will be posted on the whiteboard each day
• Each event will have a number and a start time
An Opening Assignment
• Students will have a Welcome Activity to begin upon entering the classroom
• DOL, Math Facts, or Journal Activity

• 5-10 minutes to complete


• When finished students will place their Welcome Activity in the top right hand
corner of their desk
• Students will silent read with remaining time
Taking Attendance
• Students will each have a clothespin with their name on it
• Upon entering the classroom students will move their clothespin from “Absent” to
either “School Lunch” or “Sack Lunch”
• The helper for the week will move the clothespin back to the “Absent” poster.
Dismissing the Class
• Students will have the last few minutes of class to get ready for dismissal
• Procedure will be posted until it becomes routine

Bathroom Breaks
• When is an appropriate time to use the bathroom?
1. Before, during, or after recess
2. After a lesson has been taught
3. During independent work time

• We will use the bathroom as a class before recess and lunch


• Raise your bathroom card attached to your desk if you need to use the bathroom
Drinks of Water
• Bring a water bottle from home to keep at your desk
• We will take drink breaks during our bathroom break
Pencil
• Place your dull pencil in the bin that says dull and grab and sharp pencil out of the
bin that says sharpened
Hallway
• When we walk in the hallway we:
1. Have our arms at our side
2. Face forward
3. Voices off
4. One tile square away from the person in front of us
Tissue
• Quietly get up and get a tissue
• Throw your tissue in the garbage
• Get one pump of hand sanitizer
• Quietly return to your seat
