PROCEDURES FOR

INSTRUCTION
Miss Bierne
Class Discussions
• Each student will have a craft stick with their name on it
• Students will be called on by drawing a stick from the container
• Eyes and ears are on the student speaking
• Raise your hand and wait to be called on if you have anything to contribute
Working in Groups
• Students will be assigned to groups
• Groups can choose from various locations around the room
• Reading Nook, Table(s), Anywhere on the floor

• There will be a countdown timer for transitions


• You are responsible for your own behavior and work
• Ask your fellow group members for help if you have a question
• Try your best to help your group member if they ask a question
• Ask Miss Bierne for help if the entire group is stumped
Note Taking
• We will take notes as a class
• Each student is responsible for taking notes in their notebook

• Notes need to be clear and easy to read


• Miss Bierne will write notes on the whiteboard/smartboard
Reading a Textbook
1. Survey- look through the chapter and get an idea of the content
2. Question- think about the material, create questions to answer as you read
3. Read- look for the answers to your questions, focus on the main idea
4. Recite- quiz yourselves
5. Review- look through your notes
6. Reflect- check for understanding
Reading Any Place
• You may either sit in a comfy chair OR take a pillow to lean on
• You must be at least an arm’s length away from your neighbor
• No talking to classmates
• Quietly put borrowed books and pillows away and return to your seat at the end of
silent reading
Taking a Test
• Keep your eyes on your own papers
• Dividers must be up

• Remain quiet until everyone is done with their test


• When you are done turn your test over and put your dividers away
• If you finish early work on the assignments posted on the board
Students Correcting Work
• Be fair and honest when correcting a classmate’s paper
• Use a colored pencil/pen to correct
• Place your number on the bottom right hand corner of the first page
• Make sure you do not have your own assignment
• Only mark next to incorrect answers
Cultivating Social Skills
• Listening
• Being respectful and courteous
• Being cooperative and participating
• Helping others
• Being patient
• Seeking attention appropriately
• Using quiet voices
• Being verbally polite (saying “please,” “thank you,” and “you’re welcome”)
