Objectives :

1) To understand the components of Water treatment Plant


2) To see actual back washing process
3) To see the Software used in Water treatment plant
4) To understand the process of Aeration, Alum mixing, Sedimentation
and Chlorination.
INTRODUCTION
Date: 13/10/2018 to 14/10/2018

Practical knowledge is also important with theoretical knowledge.


Hence we planned to visit Water Treatment Plant which is at Baramati,
to understand the different components of water treatment plant. Also to
get idea about the Software used to control whole treatment plant. To see
actual process of Aeration, Sedimentation, Chlorination etc.
Our journey Starts from RIT towards Baramati , after having lunch at
Baramati we visited Water Treatment Plant. There we get the all
information about water treatment plant From Mr. Thorat , also they
show us the demo of back washing process.
Location of Site: Baramati

District : Pune

Site Name: Baramati Water Treatment Plant

Executive Engineer : Mr. Shivankar


Location of Study :

Baramati Water Treatment plant

1) The capacity of plant is 7.5 MLD (millions of liter per day ).


2) Source for this treatment plant is Neera River and Neera left canal.
3) The water treatment plant is situated in the middle part of the city.
4) Aeration :
It is process of removing unwanted gasses present in water.

5) Sedimentation Tank :
It allows suspended particles to settle out
of water as it flows slowly through the tank.

6) Filtration :
Here layer of 7 type of sand is present in channel
through which filtration is takes place. It is next to the
sedimentation.
Back washing process:
It is the process of pumping water
backwards through filter media. It is form of preventive
maintenance so that filter media can be reused. It is done when we
will not get desired output.
7)Chlorination:
It is process of addition of bleaching powder in
the water to protect the water from bacteria.

Conclusion:

At the end of site visit, we learnt many things. This visit gave us chance to
see actual applications of many concept which we studied in classroom.
Actually we saw the process of Aeration, Alum mixing, Sedimentation,
Filtration and back washing. Also we cleared our doubts about the process of
treatment water. Also we get idea about the software used for controlling the
treatment plant.
Overall all it was very great experience.
