Lesson: Microsoft Word

Parts of the MS Word Window


1. Title Bar – displays the name of the program and the active document
2. Menu Bars-shows a list of menus. Each menu contains a list of commands
3. Toolbars-icons for quick access to Word commands
4. Ruler – shows margins, indents, and tabs and allows you to quickly change them with the mouse
5. Text Area- The typing surface and major part of the Word window. The text area displays texts
and graphics
6. Insertion point- the position where the next character of text will be typed
7. I-beam pointer-the new location of the insertion point if the mouse button is clicked
8. Scroll Bars-used to indicate and change your location within a document
9. Selection bar- unmarked area along the left edge of the text area used to select text
10. Status bar-supplies help messages for the user and information about the location of the
insertion point
