Prefabricated Pre-Finished Volumetric Construction (PPVC) PPVC Lifting Best Practices

The document discusses best practices for lifting prefabricated pre-finished volumetric construction (PPVC) modules. It describes Bouygues, a large construction company, and its experience with PPVC projects. Key focus areas for safe lifting include comprehensive documentation, qualified equipment and teams, and risk assessment. Specific techniques discussed include using self-balancing lifting frames, high-capacity tower cranes, and designating a trained lifting team. The goal is to safely and efficiently install the large modules with goals of zero incidents and on schedule.

WHAT IS PPVC

PPVC means a construction method whereby free-standing volumetric modules

(complete with finishes for walls, floors and ceilings) are constructed and assembled in
an accredited fabrication facility, in accordance with any accredited fabrication method,
and then installed in a building under building works.

HIGH-CAPACITY TOWER CRANES
(LIEBHERR)

• Brought in from Germany

specifically for the Canopy
Project
• SWL: 40 ton
• First time to use these types
of cranes for residential
projects due to PPVC
technology
• MOM type-approved
crane
• More expensive but is safer
to use especially for lifting
at higher heights
PPVC LIFTING BEST PRACTICES
HIGH-CAPACITY TOWER CRANES
(LIEBHERR)

• Easier to erect and

dismantle due to
monoblock design
• Lighter weight
compared to other
cranes of the same
capacity
• Hammer-head type
which is the fastest
type of tower crane
• Higher end crane
due to newer
technical equipment

HIGH-CAPACITY TOWER CRANES

(LIEBHERR)

• Micro-move function for precise

positioning and speed ideal for
PPVC Installation
• Electronic Monitoring System
(EMS) allows to precisely delimit
the working area

SELF-BALANCING LIFTING FRAME

• Daily Inspection by Lifting Supervisor

• Monthly Inspection by Method Manager
• Magnetic Particle Inspection – 6 months
• Steel Wires are replaced by each 7 floor
lifting of module installation.

ADVANTAGES OF SELF-BALANCING LIFTING FRAME

Balanced Lift – Evenly spread load enables a balanced lifting.

Less manpower – Maximum of 2 riggers are enough to secure all the 12

lifting hooks. (In conventional method tedious rigging work involved to balance
the load evenly by using additional chain blocks in all the hooking points).

Time saved – Easy to hook and faster. Ready to use.

Productivity- Improvement in the productivity and more modules are lifted.

Quality – High quality assured without any damage.

Compact storage - Does not occupy much space when not in use. Can be
stored over an existing module.

Recycle and reuse - Can be detached and transferred to other similar

projects.

Zero Incidents - Ensures a complete safety during a lifting process.
