Filipino Worth Dying For

The document discusses whether modern Filipinos are still worth dying for, as Senator Benigno Aquino Jr. once said when he sacrificed himself for the country during Ferdinand Marcos' martial law. It notes the social issues facing Filipinos today, such as extrajudicial killings, drugs, poverty, and technology negatively impacting culture. However, it argues that Filipinos are still worth sacrificing for because they value freedom and deserve rights to fight for a better life, as shown by Aquino's courageous example. While Filipinos still face challenges, they should not let others belittle them and must work hard to prove their worth.

"IS MODERN FILIPINO STILL WORTH DYING FOR?

"

By: Mechelle A. Duavis

Reflecting upon what has been took place from the past during the time of Marcos, thousands
of Filipino people who had undergone the brutality and the unworthiness meriting public
disgrace and dishonor as late President Ferdinand Marcos declared that the Philippines was
under Martial Law. During that dark chapter of Philippine history, the late Senator Benigno
"Ninoy" Aquino, Jr. has also suffered the cruelty under the hand of Marcos as he was being
imprisoned for almost 8 years. He sacrificed and later on died for his countrymen. He once said
that the Filipino is worth dying for. Now, let's point back to the main question. After 35 years.
Are we, the Modern Filipino still worth dying for? Are we still worth fighting for?

By just looking in today's world, mostly Filipinos are undeniably interrupted with various forms
of issues. A social issues that influences a considerable number of the individuals within a
society. A social issues such as; Extra Judicial Killings, Drugs, Poverty, Political Dynasties,
Profiteering where politicians use their carrer to obtain money, and also the State-sponsored
fake news where this happens in both the Aquino and Duterte admins, with mainstream media
supporting the Aquinos while Facebook bloggers support the Duterte interest. Aside from that
social issues that involves political problems, we also have in our country the issues that is very
rampant nowadays. The problems that mostly Filipinos are facing it. And these problems are
namely; the Teenage Pregnancy, Abortion, Sextertion and also the existence of modern
technologies that mostly Filipinos have already forgotten their belies and culture. But even so,
as a living Filipino in this country I still and strongly believe that Filipinos as a whole are worth
dying for. We are all worth sacrificing for because first of all we are worth struggle and trouble.
We are just humans that commits mistakes. This is what mostly Filipinos love-- the Freedom. So
they do the things that they may think they are in the righteous manner.

Because of our love of freedom, Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino who can be considered as the
Philippine Hero saved us from the mortality of Marcos years. Because he sees that all Filipinos
even nowadays have their rights to fight back and a courage to strive hard for a better living.
He's death serves as every Filipino's learning inspiration that we should not be afraid to fight
back no matter what. However, we Filipinos should be strong enough to strive hard and let no
one belittle us or underestimate us. Therefore, we modern filipinos are still worth dying for.
