Strengths, Interests, Values Reflection

Part 1: Do What You Are


Complete the Do What You Are survey in Naviance. Use your report to answer the questions
below.
1. What is your personality type?
My personality type is ISTJ. I am an introvert, sensor, thinker, and judger.
2. What does each aspect of your personality mean about you?
As an introvert, I prefer to focus my attention inward, consider things fully before
responding, concentrate on one thing at a time, and work at a careful and steady pace. Being
a judger I prefer to make decisions myself, work in a predictable environment, complete my
responsibilities before relaxing , and maintaining control. Sensors prefer focusing on what is,
rather than what could be, work with real things rather than ideas, apply past experience to
problem solving. As a thinker, I prefer to analyze problems logically, weigh my pros and cons
to make decisions objectively, be a tough negotiator, and I am motivated by achievement.
3. List two strengths indicated on your report. Give an example from your life that
demonstrates that these qualities are strengths.
According to my report, I am a logical and organized person and in tense situations I am able
to remain calm. I see these qualities in myself when I’ve stayed calm when my dad fell and
was bleeding out and after my mom and I got in a car accident.
4. What qualities should a career have in order to satisfy your particular personality?
My career should be hands on and work with real things rather than ideas. I should be able to
work by myself and work in a slower and predictable environment that still involves problem
solving.
5. How can you use this information to make an informed career choice?
When making an informed career choice I would take into consideration an office job that
involves working with real objects.

Part 2: MI Advantage
Complete the MI Advantage survey in Naviance. Use your report to answer the questions
below.
6. What are your top three intelligences?
My top three intelligences are spatial, linguistic, and existential.
7. What do these intelligences mean about you?
Spatial refers to my strengths in building, creating, visualizing and designing. My linguistic
skills include: reading, writing and memorizing. As for existential, I am able to see the big
picture in everything and how things fit together.
8. How can you use this information to make an informed career choice?
When making a career choice and taking in account my MI Advantage I should consider a future in
creating and building something big from start to finish.

Part 3: Career Interests Profiler


Complete the Career Interests Profiler in Naviance. Use your report to answer the questions
below.
9. What are your strongest interests?
My strongest interests are in social and enterprising.
10. What do these interests mean about you?
These interests mean that I want to work with others and lead people in making decisions
and carrying out projects.
11. How can you use this information to make an informed career choice?
Using my assessment to make an informed career choice, I need a job that I can work as a
project team leader.
Part 4: Work Values
Go to www.onetonline.org. Under “Advanced Search”, select “Work Values”. Review the
description of each work value. Select three work values that are most important to you.
Answer the questions below about your work values.
12. What are your top three work values?
My top three work values are achievement, recognition, and relationships.
13. What do these work values mean about you?
These work values mean that I would be using my strongest abilities, advancement potential
and servicing others.
14. How can you use this information to make an informed career choice?
With this information I need a job with potential and ability to move up in the company and
to work with clients.

Part 5: Career Results Comparison


Review the career lists provided at the end of each survey. Identify three careers that are similar across
the lists. List the careers and explain why each career may be satisfying to you citing evidence from your
survey results.

Three careers that are similar across the assessments are architecture/ construction, sewing, and a
career in nursing or medical. The medical path plays with the work values and my intelligences, while
the sewing works with my strengths in my personality type and working with my hands and objects.
Out of the three career paths I see myself mostly in the architecture and construction field: this is
because of my leadership, creativity, work values, intelligences, and personality type.
