DEL Lab Manual - Experiment 6

The document describes an experiment to design and implement combinational logic gates. The objective is to study logic gates in a situation where an LED will turn on under four conditions related to the states of switches A, B, and C. The procedure involves drawing a truth table, obtaining a Boolean expression, minimizing the expression, drawing a circuit diagram, building the circuit, and verifying the truth table by testing different input states.

Experiment No: 6 Date:

Design & Implementation of Combinational Logic gates

Objective:
To study combinational logic gates with some situation.

Components Required:

Sl .No Description Range Quantity

1 Digital IC Trainer kit 1
2 IC 7432 ( OR) 1
3 IC 7408 ( AND) 1
4 IC 7404 ( NOT) 1
5 IC 7486 ( EX-OR) 1
6 Connecting wires As required

Procedure:

AIM: The LED is set to be turn ON when the following conditions apply:
a) Switches A,B,C are on
b) Switches A and B are on BUT switch C is off.
c) Switches A and C are on BUT switch B is off.
d) Switches C and B are on BUT switch A is off.

1) Draw a truth table for this situation and obtain a Boolean expression for it. Minimize
this expression and draw a logic gates circuit diagram.
2) Make a connection based on the drawn logic gates circuit diagram.
3) Inputs are given to the circuit making high ‘1’ to +Vcc supply to the 14th pin and for
low ‘0’ is ground to the 7th pin of the gate.
4) Depending upon the truth table, if the LED glows it represents ‘ON’ and if it does not
glow, it represents ‘OFF’.
5) Verify the truth table.
