Multimediatoolslesson

This document describes a 1st grade science lesson plan that uses the movie-making app iMovie. The lesson addresses the standard of obtaining and communicating information about the basic needs of plants. Students will watch a video about the life of a plant, posted on the classroom blog. They will take notes and discuss the video in class. Students will then create a plant model and label its parts. They will be assessed on their knowledge of plant parts and needs. The use of technology allows students to review lessons at home and answer questions without relying solely on prior knowledge.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

Having this video is great for ELL, ESOL and all students in general because it allows for them to gain an
understanding at their own pace. The students are able to fast forward and rewind the video whenever
needed. They can view it in the comfort of their home and with their parents for a better understanding.
Lesson idea implementation:
This video will be posted on the classroom blog for students to view at home. I will also have the video played
at the very beginning of class for the students who were unable to view it online prior to class. The students
will then write down some important information or bullet points of some things they found important.
Students will then share their facts taken from the video and as a class we will go into further discussion.
Students will also work on their plant model of play-doh and the labeled parts.

After, the students will be assessed of their knowledge with a test. I will test them on how well they can label
the parts of a plant and its need to survive. I will also have students compare plant to living and nonliving
objects.
Importance of technology:
Without the use of technology, the students would not be able to review videos for a reference to their
assignments. The students will be forced to rely on prior knowledge, have unanswered questions and
incorrect answers.
Internet Safety and Student Privacy:
Internet rules will be displayed around the classroom for students to reference. The only important video
they will need for this particular assignment will be on the classroom blog so students will not need much rule
enforcement.
