Masterflex 610

This document provides a method statement for fixing Masterflex 610, a preformed water bar that swells when in contact with water, to seal construction joints. It specifies using Masterflex 610 made by MBT, which is a polymer composite water stop that swells in moisture. It is to be fixed in horizontal and vertical joints using Masterseal 610 Adhesive to provide a watertight barrier resistant to microorganisms and deterioration in fresh, brackish, and sea water applications with chemical exposure. The method statement outlines selecting the correct size, preparing the concrete substrate, cutting Masterflex 610 to length with overlaps, and fixing it to the substrate with staples or nails while applying light tension before concreting.

THIS METHOD STATEMENT COVERS THE FIXING OF MASTERFLEX 610,

MASTERFLEX 610
A PREFORMED WATER BAR, THAT SWELLS IN CONTACT WITH WATER, TO
SEAL CONSTRUCTION JOINTS

SPECIFICATION CLAUSE:

Where indicated, supply and fix MASTERFLEX 610 manufactured by MBT, a

polymer composite water stop that swells in the presence of moisture using
suitable available size to be fixed in horizontal and vertical joints using
“Masterseal 610 Adhesive” providing a water tight barrier resistant to
micro organisms, resists deterioration (fresh, brackish and sea water) in
construction applications with high chemical exposure including oils and
fuels.

Material should have approval for use with potable water installation.

Surface preparation and application shall be strictly in accordance with the

manufacturer’s recommendations.

METHOD STATEMENT :

1. APPLICATION:

1.1. Select the correct size of MASTERFLEX 610 for the application as per the
technical datasheet.

1.2. The concrete substrate to which the MASTERFLEX 610 is to be fixed

must be smooth and sound.

1.3. Cut the MASTERFLEX 610 to the required length.

NOTE: If more than one length of water bar is required, or the

MASTERFLEX 610 is being wrapped around piles, allow the water
bar to overlap at the joint for a minimum of 2cm.

1.4. Fix the MASTERFLEX 610 to the concrete substrate using staples or steel
nails. Apply light tension to the MASTERFLEX 610 as it is being fixed.

1.5. Protect the fixed MASTERFLEX 610 from mould release oil and dirt. Do
not saturate the water bar before concreting as this may cause it to
swell.
