Week 1 Blog

This document provides guidance for weekly journal entries for a filmmaking project (FMP). It instructs students to reflect on what they have learned, how their project has developed, and what needs improvement. The sample response describes the challenges of developing an idea that is meaningful and impactful, how writing a proposal helped finalize the idea and identify areas for growth, and that feedback from peers supported selecting an idea about teacher recognizing student self-harm. While most work is on track, finding a competition and completing the brief still need to be done outside of lessons.

Week One - Context

CONTEXT

How did you find coming up I felt that coming up with an idea was challenging, I kept changing my
with an idea that challenged mind on what I wanted to do, I was debating between doing a music
you enough for your FMP? video or a short film. My idea for the short film was an idea I was
planning on using for my radio drama unit, which I felt would be better
as a short film. I didn’t use this idea as my FMP as I wanted my FMP to
have a meaning behind it for the so that the audience would
remember it. I adapted the idea so that it would work as a short film. I
had two ideas for music video. One of my ideas was to have a girl
reminiscing on her relationship with her ex-boyfriend, thinking about
what they had and what they could’ve had in the future, again I didn’t
use this idea as there wouldn’t be any meaning behind it. My other idea
was to have a story told from a teacher’s perspective of a student self-
harming and eventually killing herself, thinking that if he’d noticed
sooner maybe she would’ve still been here. At the end of the video he
sees another girl at the back of the class how she the girl that killed
herself was at the beginning and think’s to their self ‘I can’t let happen
to another student of mine’. I chose this idea as it has a meaning
behind it. The challenges that I will encounter with this idea is that the
fact of showing how she self-harms.

How has writing a proposal By writing a proposal it has helped me to summarise the skills I have
helped you with finalising learnt this year and how I can use them in my FMP to show what I have
your idea? learnt. It has also helped me to see what I needed to improve on in my
previous units, therefore being able to improve on them for my FMP,
which includes my camera work and editing techniques which I can
use in my FMP. I also feel that I have improved a lot since my short film in
Unit 3, after looking at my short film I realised that my camera angles
weren’t the best and that my editing techniques weren’t good as well, I
can now take all the feedback that I’ve got from previous units
especially Unit 3 and improve my camera work and editing techniques
to make my FMP look more professional and interesting to the
audience. Whilst writing the project concept the target audience for
my music video and the purpose of it. It also helped me to think of how
getting feedback from peers would help me adapt and make my idea
better. By writing a proposal it helped me to find out what I need to
include and focus on in my FMP. Now that I know that the target
audience for my music video will be teenagers between the age off 15-
18 but it also targets adults such as teachers so that they can look out
for things like this and help students before it’s too late.

How did the feedback help I sent out a survey asking what idea they found best, and most people
you adapt your idea – what said idea 2 was the best as it ‘has a very good narrative’, relate to real
did you change after issues that could affect anyone anytime. No one really gave feedback
feedback? on what I can do to improve my music video,

Are you on track for the No, I am not on track for this week, the only things I need to complete is
week? If not, how far behind my brief and finding a competition. Other than this I am on track with
