The document is solving a two-part physics problem about a 6800-kg helicopter taking off from rest with a constant 88,000 N vertical thrust from its rotor. It calculates (a) the helicopter's vertical acceleration as 3.13 m/s^2 and (b) that after 2 seconds it will have risen 6.26 meters high.

Problem 14.

2 The 6800-kg helicopter takes off from

rest. Its rotor exerts a constant 88,000 N vertical thrust.

(a) What is the helicopter’s vertical acceleration?

(b) How high does it rise in 2 s?

Solution:
 T = 88000 N
Fy = T − mg = ma

T 88000
(a) a= −g = − 9.81 m/s2
m 6800

a = 3.13 m/s2 y
mg
(b) a = 3.13 m/s 2
v0 = y0 = 0

v = 3.13t m/s

y = 3.13t 2 /2 m

At t = 2 s,

y = 6.26 m
