Sliding and Fixed Saddles

The document describes load cases for a sliding and fixed saddle support system with and without earthquake or longitudinal acceleration. For the sliding saddle, the longitudinal reaction is equal to the vertical sliding reaction times a friction factor plus the load of the sliding support. For the fixed saddle, the sum of the longitudinal reactions is equal to zero without acceleration, and equal to the load due to acceleration with acceleration. The document also defines reaction and moment notation conventions.

Sliding saddle Fixed saddle

For the Sliding Saddle:

RaHL = ( RaV sliding + load of sliding support ) * Friction Factor

For the Fixed Saddle:

 RaHL = 0.  RaHL = - RaHL ( Sliding )

Cases with earthquake or with longitudinal acceleration (motion)

Depends on the sense of the longitudinal action due to the earthquake or the longitudinal
acceleration for motion.

For the Sliding Saddle:

RaHL = ( RaV sliding + load of sliding support ) * Friction Factor

For the Fixed Saddle:

 RaHL = load due to acceleration  RaHL = -RaHL ( Sliding ) ± load due to acceleration
according to the code here after:

RaV : Vertical reaction in daN seismic load

RaHT : Horizontal (cross) reaction in daN () vertical downside and horizontal longitudinal to the right
RaHL : Horizontal (longitudinal) reaction in daN () vertical downside and horizontal longitudinal to the left
AmT : Circumferential bending moment in daN∙m () vertical upside and horizontal longitudinal to the right
AmL : Longitudinal bending moment in daN∙m () vertical upside and horizontal longitudinal to the left
() vertical downside and horizontal cross
Stacked vessels: loads for the combined stack. () vertical upside and horizontal cross
