The competition between Samsung and Apple, two giant companies in the smartphone
industry, continues to grow every day. As a result of the rivalry, the two companies have been
developing mobile phones with almost similar features except for a few subtle differences. The
two firms often launch their phones at the same time. Consumers usually face the hard choice of
choosing the better phone between the two companies’ devices. For example, in April 2017,
Samsung released the Samsung Galaxy S8 smartphone (Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8, n.d.).
Shortly after in September of the same year, Apple released the iPhone 8 series (IPhone 8, n.d.).
The two phones have standard features and selling points such as the fingerprint reader, wireless
charging, and comparable camera capabilities. However, the Samsung Galaxy S8 edges iPhone

iPhone 8. Unlike the iPhone 8 which is smaller and appears delicate, the phone is bigger and
looks stronger (Seitz, 2017). The iPhone 8 is made entirely of glass which makes it seem fragile
(Seitz, 2017). On the contrary, the Samsung Galaxy S8 has a glass back and an aluminum frame,
which makes it appear stronger than the iPhone 8 models (Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8, n.d.). The
Samsung Galaxy S8 is bigger and has a larger display screen compared to that of the iPhone 8
(Seitz, 2017). The larger screen makes the phone look better and more user-friendly than the
iPhone 8. Therefore, Samsung Galaxy S8 is physically and structurally appealing than iPhone 8
models.
Samsung Galaxy S8 offers better security features than the iPhone 8. The Samsung
Galaxy S8 phone has a faster iris scanning ability that makes it more secure than the iPhone 8
(Simon, 2017). The iris scanning feature ensures that only the legitimate owner can use or access

the contents of the phone. Samsung Galaxy S8 series also has a facial recognition feature that
also helps in enhancing security (Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8, n.d.). On the contrary, the iPhone
8 only relies on fingerprint identification for protection (Simon, 2017). Even though it is
complicated, studies have shown that it is possible to compromise the fingerprint mode of
security. The latter leaves the iPhone 8 vulnerable. Therefore, the Samsung Galaxy S8 is a better

The wireless ear-pads allow users to listen to media content from the phone via Bluetooth while
the multi-window option offers users the opportunity to operate two applications side by side.
The phone also has a Bixby personal assistant which allows the user to accomplish a wide array
of multistep tasks using his or her voice (Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8, n.d.). The phone also has
an optional Dex dock, which turns the phone into a PC. On the contrary, unlike the Samsung
Galaxy S8, the iPhone 8 does not offer a lot of advanced features. The iPhone 8 lacks the

In conclusion, after weighing all the features offered by both phones, the Samsung
Galaxy S8 is better than the iPhone 8 on various aspects. One can conclude that the Samsung
Galaxy S8 phone is physically more appealing than the iPhone. The phone is also structurally
better and offers more features to the user. Besides, the Samsung Galaxy S8 has more security
features that help in protecting the users' privacy. Moreover, the Samsung Galaxy S8 looks better
