The Wayer Cycle Studnet Notes-2

Water is found almost everywhere on Earth, from the atmosphere to oceans, glaciers, and underground. The sun and gravity drive the water cycle, with sunlight fueling evaporation and gravity causing precipitation. Water plays important roles by enabling biological processes in organisms and providing essential habitats, with aquatic habitats containing more species than land habitats. Other places water can be found include underground sources we can't see.

1 question a bout water/the water cycle that comes to mind

1.
Water
Where is water found and why is it important?

Water is found almost everywhere on Earth, from high in the atmosphere (as water vapor) to
low in the atmosphere (precipitation, droplets in clouds) to mountain snowcaps and glaciers
(solid) to running liquid water on the land, ocean, and underground, as seen in the images below.
Energy from the sun and the force of gravity drive the continual cycling of water among these
reservoirs. Sunlight causes evaporation and propels oceanic and atmospheric circulation, which
transports water around the
globe. Gravity causes
precipitation to fall from
clouds and water to flow
downward on the land
through watersheds.

Water plays two major

important roles. First, water
is essential in functioning
body processes in both
plants and animals. Water
allows organisms to break
down food, grow, reproduce,
amd get/use materials from
their environment. Water is
also essential in providing
habitats for many species.
In fact, aquatic/water habitats
contain many more types of
organisms than land habitats.

What other types of places might water be contained? (hint: think about
water we can’t see) _________________________________________
