Algebra 2 Inverse Functions Lesson Plan

Students will learn about inverse functions including notation, domain, graphing, and solving algebraically. The teacher will use a bell ringer worksheet, PowerPoint lecture, group work, and an individual exit ticket. Students will start with independent bell ringer work, then the teacher will review answers and give a lecture using examples on the whiteboard and PowerPoint. Next, students will work in groups of four on an inverse function word maze activity and practice problems. To conclude, students will individually complete a real-world exit ticket and exchange problems with a partner to solve.

Teacher: Ivette Falcon

Objective: All.2. A, All.2. B, and All.2.C Grade Level: 11th Grade-Dual Language
Students will learn about inverse functions Algebra 2
including notation, domain, graphing, and
solving algebraically.
Objective/Purpose:

Students will learn how to use their previous knowledge on radical functions to be able to
solve for inverse function including knowing the notations, domains, graphing, and solving
inverse functions algebraically.
Materials/Resources/Equipment Needed:

Bell Ringer Worksheet, PowerPoint, Pencils, Calculators, Whiteboard, Whiteboard markers

and erasers, Inverse functions worksheet, and Exit ticket worksheet, Homework worksheet.
Instructional Delivery:

Students will start by individually solving the bell ringer worksheet, then there will be a
typical lecture implemented using the whiteboard and a PowerPoint, finally the students will
work in groups of four to solve problems. Finally students will individually solve there real-
world exit ticket.
Engage: (3-5)

Students will work on a bell ringer worksheet independently.

Explore: (3-5 min)

As a class we will go over the answers of the bell ringer worksheet.

Explain: (20-30 min)

We will move on to the lecture part of the classroom where we will be using the whiteboard
for examples and the PowerPoint for lecture. I will be explaining about all the details needed
to solve both graphing and algebraically linear inverse functions and radical inverse functions.
As well as introducing the notation for inverse function.

Elaborate: (30 min)

Once the lecture part of the lesson is done with, we will move on practicing inverse function
with a fun word maze inverse activity. Students will be able to work in their teams of four
already assigned to solve the inverse activity.

Closure: (10 min)

Students will start by working individually to complete the real-world based exit ticket and
once done they will exchange their real-world inverse problem, they created with a partner to
try to solve each other’s inverse problem.
Homework:

Radical and Linear Inverse Worksheet.
