Invocation of Movement & Rest: Numbers 10:35-36
by Tau Malachi Posted: Mon Jul 23, 2018 10:50 am
“Whenever the ark set out, Moses would say, ‘Arise, O Lord, let your enemies be scattered, and
your foes flee before you.’ And whenever it came to rest he would say, ‘Return, O Lord of the ten
thousand thousands of Israel’” (Numbers 10:35-36).
As is known, the ark of covenant was also called the ‘mercy seat,’ and it was as the ‘throne’ of the
Divine Presence, Holy Shekinah, in this world. At rest a ‘throne’ and in movement a ‘chariot,’ so it
was, in effect, a ‘merkavah’ of the Divine Presence in this world, and the tabernacle, specifically
the holy of holies, the ‘dwelling place,’ makom. “Arise, O Lord” and “return, O Lord,” this is
addressed to the Divine Presence, Holy Shekinah, and more so to the ‘angel of the Shekinah,’
which would go before the children of Israel as they wander from place to place in the wilderness
of the desert, and then rest in their midst when they camped. When in movement, “let your
enemies be scattered, and your foes flee before you,” and when at rest, “Lord of the ten thousand
thousands of Israel.” What is implied? The scattering, fleeing of enemies, foes, is the driving away
of all that oppose and turn away from the Eternal One, Yahweh, and the ten thousand thousands of
Israel the gathering in of all that seek and turn to the Eternal One, all who live in submission, or
harmony with the Divine Presence and the will of the Most High, El Elyon.
We may consider the deeper spiritual and mystical meaning of these invocations, and consider
them in the light of the Straight Path.
First, understand, you are the tabernacle, the holy temple, your heart the holy of holies with the
ark within it and the Holy Shekinah, Holy Spirit, resting up that ark; you are the dwelling place of
the Divine Presence, and your heart is the ‘place’ of the revelation of Yahweh Elohenu, the Lord
your God. When you turn to the Lord in prayer and meditation, and when you invoke, this
corresponds with the ark coming to rest, and as you commune in the Divine Presence, abiding in
oneness with the Divine Presence, so hold in your heart the entire Community of the faithful and
chosen - all faithful and spiritual humanity, and as you pray and uplift yourself to God Most High,
so pray for and uplift the Community, invoking the Shekinah, Holy Spirit, to rest upon the whole
Anointed Community; hence, “Lord of ten thousand thousands.”
When you pray and meditate you need to settle, and generate kavvanah-concentration and
devekut-cleaving, and you need to transform and uplift, or drive out, all negative thoughts and
emotions, and all desires other than the desire to turn, the desire for God and God alone. Thus
before the Holy Shekinah, Holy Spirit, and you come to rest there is this active invocation of
clearing, and for the Divine Presence to ‘move upon you,’ purifying and sanctifying you. This
corresponds with, “Let your enemies be scattered, and your foes flee before you.”
Alternatively, however, having turned to the Lord, and prayed and meditated, so in oneness as you
arise from your devotions and go out into the world, walking with God, in God and as the Divine
Presence - walking in beauty and holiness, so invoke that the angel of the Holy Shekinah goes
before you, opening the way for you, blessing and uplifting all that may be uplifted and
subjugating, shattering and casting down all that is unwilling and cannot be uplifted. This, too,
may be understood as “let your enemies be scattered before you, and your foes flee before you.”
Now here we shall share with you something concerning the holy ark and the two kerubim upon its

cover. As we know, these corresponded with Mercy and Judgment - Hesed and Gevurah, and this is
true also with the ark in the holy of holies that is the heart of the knower of God. This corresponds
with the empowerment of the disciples as holy apostles in the upper room when the Lord breathed
upon them the Holy Spirit and empowered them to release and retain sin, or negative karma.
There is a secret in this, however, because in your heart they also represent the good inclination
and evil inclination, and facing one another and stretching wings to one another, understand that
this is the evil inclination brought into submission to the good inclination, the evil inclination
serving the good inclination, and so serving heaven and God. It is in this that the power of Mercy
and Judgment is realized, or the power to release and retain sin, negative karma, and likewise the
power to pacify, enrich, subjugate and destroy impure and evil spiritual forces - “enemies” and
“foes” of the Lord, Yahweh, Yeshua.
On a deep esoteric level the power of retaining and releasing sin corresponds with these two
invocations of Moshe, retaining corresponds with the invocation of the ark setting out and releasing
corresponds with the invocation of the ark coming to rest.
In closing we can also share that this power of Mercy and Judgment becomes manifest in oneness
so that, indeed, it is not the holy apostle who judges or enacts judgment, but rather it is the
Divine Presence, Holy Shekinah, Holy Spirit; it is God, the True Light, that does this, and no other
than God.
May we be blessed to realize the fullness of the Divine Presence within and around us, and
manifest as us an all! Amen.
Shalom Aleichem!
What you've elucidated of Moses's invocations over the ark—its states of movement and rest—is
dazzling. Praise God!
If I've not moved too far afield of this contemplation, you've clearly described how much this
moment in Numbers corresponds to the empowerments given by the Living Yeshua.

The ark figures for much more than I ever thought. Rabbis of the Zohar have gone so far as to
relate the cherubim on the ark with Metatron. We'll remember that what Adam lost in the Garden,
Enoch found, meriting his transfiguration into Metatron, "to the embarrassment to all those
[angels] who had antagonized their Lord, insisting that the human being should not be created in
the world" (2:277b). Based on this midrash-legend of Enoch becoming Metatron, we have an
expansive way to contemplate how Righteous Ones come into being in any generation, a pattern
you've called the 'Metatron Continuum.'
Your relating of Moses's invocation over the ark at rest and motion brought the cherubim who are a
gate of this Metraton Continuum into another focus:
There is a secret in this, however, because in your heart [the cherubim on the ark] also represent
the good inclination and evil inclination, and facing one another and stretching wings to one
another, understand that this is the evil inclination brought into submission to the good inclination,

the evil inclination serving the good inclination, and so serving heaven and God. It is in this that

karma, and likewise the power to pacify, enrich, subjugate and destroy impure and evil spiritual

This is breathtaking. I never imagined this role in the cherubim on the ark coming to the kind of
fulfillment they prophecy in Tzaddikim and Apostles. Suddenly, the whole image of the ark as the
seat of the Holy Shekinah in my heart—the holy of holies—and the the ‘place’ of the revelation of
Yahweh Elohenu, the Lord your God, ties an immense, new picture of the Apostolic Succession with
the ark.
I'm hearing Moses' address to the 'Angel of the Shekinah' going out and coming in with the ark as a
prophecy of the Apostolic Succession, the Harvest of Souls. Who is the Angel of the Shekinah?
Metatron, the Vice-regent of the Most High, manifest in each and every Tzaddik and Apostle
anointed with Supernal Light. Their work IS the invocation of Moses over the ark. Until your
marvelous post, I would never recognized Moses's invocation as a prophecy of the Apostolic
Succession.
Gratefully,
Elder Gideon
Blessings to you in the Holy Light of the Messiah, light of all prophets and apostles of God!
In truth, the entire story and all events of the exodus, and the wandering of the children of Israel
in the wilderness, and their eventual entrance into the Promised Land, are prophetic of the coming
of the Messiah and the Great Exodus - the true liberation of souls in the Great Resurrection and
Ascension. The Holy Torah and the prophets open the way for the coming of the Messiah, and
labored for it.
Understand, the ark of covenant was a focal point of the Holy Shekinah in its time, as were the
Baal Shem, Masters of the Name, in each generation, Moshe being the first in the succession from
Sinai, though indeed, as we know, the entire succession of prophets began with Adam. Concerning
the Baal Shem, while the ark of covenant remained with Israel, save for times of great corruption,
when there was a need for great revelation the head of the prophets would go and enter into the
holy of holies and prostrate themselves before the Divine Presence, and when the Holy Spirit came
upon them they would fix their gaze in the empty space between the cherubim, and they would
see, hear and feel with the Spirit, thus receiving prophecy, revelation, for the people. This way of
special devotion among the Baal Shem continued until the destruction of the first temple, the
temple of King Solomon.
As we know, when the second temple was built there was no ark in the holy of holies, and it was
like an empty husk, klippah, and what was refashioned of the furnishings of the first temple were
something like those of the tabernacle and first temple, but by no means were they the same. Save
for the matrix of faith among the people, in truth the entire second temple was an empty husk,
and more a monument to days gone by, though also standing as a talisman of invocation for the
coming of the Messiah, the one who would bring the kingdom of heaven on earth and fill the holy
temple with the Shekinah, Holy Spirit. As we also know, with the coming of the Messiah the
kingdom of God, or Promised Land, is not of this world, and likewise the temple of God - dwelling
of the Holy Shekinah, is not an outward building or structure in this world; but rather, the human
being - spiritual humanity, is the holy temple of the Living God, and the kingdom of heaven is
within them, and is made manifest wherever they are found. With the coming of the Messiah so
there is the arising of the apostolic succession corresponding with the full realization of the
Oneness of God Most High; hence a realization of the perfect human being beyond that of the

prophets, a humanity that is supernal and divine. So now, all who receive the full anointing with
the Supernal Light and Holy Spirit - Light of the Messiah, are focal points of the Holy Shekinah,
Holy Spirit, or dwelling places of the Divine Presence.
There is something more that we can share concerning the blessing of ‘resting’ and ‘returning’
here. Remember, where you see ‘thousand,’ ‘thousands,’ ‘tens of thousands,’ there is a place of
the letter Alef, which indicates the Absolute Oneness of God and which also indicates the Spirit of
God, or Breath of God. So Moshe had quite a visionary invocation on an esoteric level, a hint of the
non-dual gnostic awareness indicative of the full realization of the Absolute Oneness that God Is.
May we be blessed to fulfill our destiny, and so fulfill the will of God Most High! Amen.
Shalom Aleichem!
