The ability to transfer heat between different zones can be very useful:
• … when cooling technical rooms (servers, UPS, …) in the autumn, winter and spring
• … when the south façade is being heated by the sun, but in the shade it’s still cold
• … when a room is occupied by so many persons, that cooling is required even though in
the neighboring room you’re heating
• … you can use the system for cooling during summer and at the same time prepare
sanitary hot water
• … during mid-season in the hotels, where some guests are cold, some are hot

How this extra capacity can be used?
Example: Daikin VRV IV Heat recovery system:
• Extra heat, produced during peak cooling load can be stored for
further domestic hot water production in water storage tank.

Example: Daikin VRV IV Heat Pump system and gas boiler – traditional solution
• Heating or cooling of building zones is provided by indoor units
• Domestic hot water and additional heating of building zones (if necessary ) is
provided by the gas boiler)

Altogether this makes a kind of recuperator, which you This is the DX heat exchanger
often see in AHUs. But in this case heat is transferred not in the return section, it is used
only between supply and return air within AHU itself, but to capture the heat extracted
within the whole system, i.e. can be used in those points from the room
where it is mostly needed.

For technical cooling to be possible, the evaporating temp has to be lower than outdoor temperature
in winter time:
1. To avoid re-solidification of refrigerant in the indoor unit
2. In case of multi module, to avoid refrigerant stored in the outdoor unit that is not operating.

VRV IV HR is ONLY compatible with NEW BS-BOXES. You cannot use older BS-boxes
with new outdoor units. You will get UA-28 error and system will not start. There is
no way to overcome this incompatibility issue!

• SVL, SVH – gas line step motorized valves, 0-6000 pulses control range. Used to connect suction or

• LSV – liquid subcool valve. Used to provide 100% liquid return to liquid line after heating indoor units
working in heating mode;
• EEV – indoor unit expansion valve.

• At least 50% of the outdoor unit load must be connected via BS-boxes (it is also
possible to connect units directly).
• Do not place BS-boxes to the area with low background sound level. This is
because mode changeover noise, which is 5-6 dBA (~2 times) higher than average
declared in the specification. This is only for 1-2 seconds, but can create
discomfort.
• Multi BS-boxes require condensate drain connection!

• VRV IV HR system has some limitations in terms of allowed temperatures. Not all
of the special types indoor units can be used together at the same time in the same
system. This is useful to know when considering the possibility of HR system
application.
• There are some points to know about BS-boxes. First of all, VRV IV HR outdoor units
must be used only with new generation BS-boxes, because they have different
refrigerant circuit and different control algorithm. There are also some tips on how
to use BS-boxes properly and effectively.
• HR system creates more data traffic on indoor-outdoor data exchange line, so there
are some additional rules compared to heat pump systems. If you want to apply the
centralized control, it is important to understand the composition of your system –
different components have different limitations.
