Piaget's Stages of Cognitive Development: Equilibration

Children progress through four major stages of cognitive development according to Piaget's theory: 1) The sensorimotor stage from birth to age 2 where children learn about the world through senses and motor skills. 2) The preoperational stage from ages 2 to 7 where children begin to use symbols and language but think egocentrically. 3) The concrete operational stage from ages 7 to 11 where children can logically think about concrete events and understand conservation. 4) The formal operational stage from age 12 and up where adolescents can think abstractly, hypothetically, and apply deductive/inductive reasoning.
