Vertical Spray Tower (No Packings) : Ka G L

This document provides equations and considerations for designing a vertical spray tower without packings for gas scrubbing. The maximum permissible gas velocity is 2.3 m/s to prevent liquid entrainment. The diameter of the tower is calculated based on the actual gas flow rate and velocity. The number of gas phase transfer units required is calculated from the inlet and outlet gas phase solute mole fractions. The total volume of the spray section is calculated from the number of gas phase transfer units, gas flow rate, and gas-phase mass transfer coefficient, for which an empirical correlation is provided. The scrubbing liquid rate should generally be at least 3 liters per actual cubic meter of flue gas.
