Parts of Speech
1. Nouns
Exercise 1 Give more examples for each of the above nouns.
(Any acceptable answers)

2. Verbs
Exercise 2 Circle the verbs in the sentences below.

i. I write to my mother every day.

ii. He went to my office by bus yesterday.

iii. Mary is trading with us.

iv. They have left this company since January.

v. We will take him to the park later today.

3. Adjectives
Exercise 3 Fill in the blanks with appropriate linking verbs and adjectives.

* The adjectives are suggested answers. Other possible answers are accepted.

i. It is a/ an interesting story. I cannot stop reading it until the end.

ii. Fred can solve riddles quickly. He is very clever.

iii. Tom and Bill are happy because they win the game.

iv. The boys are naughty. The teachers always punish them.

v. They are busy, so they do not have time to have lunch with us.

4. Adverbs
Exercise 4 Fill in the blanks with an adverb/ adverbial phrase below. Use each word once only.

5. Pronouns
Exercise 5 Fill in the blank with an appropriate pronoun.

i. When their son saw the Hong Kong Space Museum, he asked, “What is it?”

ii. “John and Mary need the stapler. Give it to them.”

iii. Joey and I are good friends. We always have lunch together.

iv. “We are going to the beach. Do you want to go there with us?”

6. Prepositions
Exercise 6 Fill in the blank with the following prepositions: to, in, on, at, by, between, from

i. Susan sits between David and Nancy.

ii. Sam works in Central.

iii. She walks from the museum to the MTR station.

iv. The system starts functioning at half past eight.

v. The school term begins from September.

vi. We always travel by bus.

7. Conjunctions
Exercise 7 Complete the following sentences with the conjunctions above.
i. CIM and BA are campus departments.

ii. He did not study hard, so he failed in examination.

iii. Ronald swims fast but John does not.
