POLICY FOR CONDUCT AND EVALUATION OF INTERNSHIP
Date: May 4, 2019
1.0 Introduc on:
Internship program provides pre-professional work experience to the students with
specific assignment and responsibili es. An Internship should be relevant to a student's
personal career interests and academic courses of study, serving as a bridge between
university and the world of work. Internship help students make informed decisions and
improve their employability a er gradua on.

1.1 Objec ves of the Internship:


The objec ves of the internship/prac cal training are as follows:
i. To provide exposure to Technical students to the industrial environment, which
cannot be simulated in the classroom and hence crea ng competent professionals
for the industry.
ii. Provide possible opportuni es to learn, understand and sharpen the real me
technical / managerial skills required at the job.
iii. Develop student's individual maturity, self-awareness, and confidence.
iv. Enable students to put into prac ces their academic knowledge and skills acquired
at College to benefit the organiza ons.
v. To train and prepare students with knowledge and skills requirements of current
and future industry environments.

1.2 Dura on:


As per the guidelines given by RTU, Mandatory internship dura on for I to III year
students are;
1. I Year Students (Moving to II Year) : 15 Days
2. II Year Students (Moving to III Year) : 45 Days
3. III Year Students (Moving to IV Year) : 45 to 60 Days

1.3 Internship Guidelines for PGC students:


For I and II Year Students:
For Internship, students can choose any of the three below men oned op ons-
i) From Industry: Students can opt to do Training from industry.

ii) Cer fica on course outside Poornima: Students can opt for cer fica on in
relevant Technology/Skill requirements. It is advised that the students are selec ng
technology / training contents such that it will help in developing non syllabus
project or the project for compe ons.
iii) In-house Cer fica on course: Students Can opt to do In house Cer fica on course
at Poornima in relevant Technology/Skill required as per his/her Branch or in
appropriate op on available to do so.
iv) All the internships are mandatory and shall be assessed strictly as per RTU
guidelines.
For III Year students:
i) It is mandatory to take Internship from Industry only, as it will provide possible
opportuni es to learn, understand and sharpen the real me technical /
managerial skills required at the job.
ii) Students are advised not to do the internship form their hometown as it hampers
the purpose of industrial exposure and growth of students.
iii) Students are advised not to do internship from organiza ons which are iden fied
by the department for not providing quality training.
iv) It would be necessary that Company/Industry for Internship and its loca on is
approved by the Department.

1.4 Discipline and Regula ons:


1. Every student must perform his/ her training with full dedica on and concentra on
2. Students are required to give details of Internship i.e. Company name & Loca on,
working technology , trainer's /repor ng officer's name, working hours etc within
first three days of joining through Google form to the Department.
3. Every student during Internship period must make himself /herself available
throughout the working hours as specified by the company/industry.
4. Department is authorized to verify presence of students through personal mee ng
with guide or by visi ng the company during summer training period. If the student
is found absent without prior permission then his/her training shall be considered
as cancelled.
5. Every student must behave and wear proper a re during the industrial training
period, in line with the requirement of the rules and regula ons of the
organiza on.

6. Student has to adhere to the safety and security procedures and policies of the
organiza on.
7. If the Employer terminates the Industrial Training for a jus fied reason for example,
absenteeism or any such disciplinary issue, training shall be considered as
cancelled.
8. Weekly Log Report:
a) Students have to fill in their daily/weekly log report to prove their work/
ac vi es that have been completed for the day.
b) Wri ng must be in English, neat, and legible.
c) Students must also bring along the log report to the training everyday and
obtain weekly employer/ supervisor signature.
d) The weekly report should be sent to the Department faculty coordinator every
week through E-mail. This log report is useful and works as a guide to write the
industrial training report.
9. Student is required to produce training cer ficate a er comple on of training. The
training cer ficate must be completely filled, authen c and dully signed by
appropriate authority.
10. If a Student is found viola ng or not following above guidelines, his/her training will
be treated as cancelled and zero marks will awarded in Prac cal training seminar.
11. Filling up log book and repor ng would be mandatory for all students from Ist Year
to IIIrd Year.

1.5 Guidelines for Evalua on of Internship:


1) Students will quan fy his/her learning by a specific outcome, which will involve
department level evalua on.
2) All the reports & presenta ons of the students will be submi ed and evaluated
during first 2 Weeks of the commencement of the odd Session.
3) Log Book will be evaluated on the basis of the following criteria:
i. Regularity in maintenance of the diary.
ii. Adequacy & quality of informa on recorded.
iii. Drawings, sketches and data recorded.
iv. Thought process and recording techniques used.
v. Organiza on of the informa on.

4) A viva will be conducted on the basis of log Book in first seven days of semester.
5) The student will give a Power Point Presenta on of minimum 30 minutes based on
his training report, before an expert commi ee cons tuted by the concerned
department as per norms of the ins tute. This presenta on will enable sharing
knowledge & experience amongst students & teachers and build communica on
skills and confidence in students.
6) The evalua on of this presenta on will be based on the following criteria:
Quality of content presented.
Proper planning for presenta on.
Effec veness of presenta on.
Depth of learning in terms of knowledge and skills.
7) An Internship Report need to be submi ed to the Department duly approved by
Training Coordinator. The Internship report will be evaluated on the basis of
following criteria:
i. Originality.
ii. Adequacy and purposeful write-up.
iii. Organiza on, format, drawings, sketches, style, language etc.
iv. Variety and relevance of learning experience.
v. Prac cal applica ons, rela onships with basic theory and concepts taught in
the course.
8) A endance record, daily diary, departmental reports shall also be analyzed along
with the Internship Report.
9) Evalua on of assessment for all three years (II, III & IV year students) shall be
submi ed by the Department to Secrecy by end of 2nd Week of the Odd Session.
