Addie and Assure Model (Critical Review)

The document provides a critical review of the Addie and Assure instructional models. Both models are based on Robert Gagne's Conditions of Learning and emphasize planning, selecting, developing, and evaluating instructional media. The Addie model focuses on developing instructional materials, while the Assure model is classroom-oriented and focuses on selecting existing materials. While the Addie model is good for assessing skills and knowledge, it is linear. The Assure model is more appropriate for developing learning styles suited for individual environments. A hybrid model combining aspects of both may be most effective for teaching students.

Critical Review of Addie and Assure Model

Addie and Assure Model are both instructional models. Both are based on Robert Gagne’s
Conditions of Learning. Before starting a lesson, the teacher has to plan, select, develop and
evaluate instructional media. If teacher do not plan systematically and completely, the
teaching objectives might not be achieved. In this regard, it is very important to master the
knowledge of instructional design. Addie model is a popular model used in the design of
teaching and learning. In the context of the development of interactive multimedia packages
education, this model is an ideal choice. Addie model is based on the development of the
instructional materials. The Assure Model is a classroom-oriented design model which can
be used by the teacher to plan, select, produce and evaluate instructional media. Assure
model uses often-useful materials already exist that can be used as is, or slightly modified to
accommodate the instruction. It is important for teachers to be all rounded and to know
when and how to use an instructional strategies as well as media use which makes the
assure model the perfect model for strategic planning. Addie model is great for finding
outcomes of behaviour and knowledge of skills. However this model is too linear and does
not account for concepts such as social skills and the environment that they live in. The
Assure model helps plan and develop instruction. Assure model is more appropriate for the
learner and the model develops the most appropriate learning style for his/her environment. I
do not think either model is great, however a hybrid model between the two would be much
more welcomed in the learning process. The kind of model one chooses really depends on
what a teacher's outcome is for every pupils in the classroom. It is vitally important for the
teachers to take time to reflect on who they are aiming the instruction to and determine the
most effective ways to carry out our instruction. As teachers they must be able to look back
at the lessons designed and gauge pupils’ successes and failures.
