The artist statement describes a photography project about graffiti in the artist's community. The artist took photos of graffiti around their neighborhood to document how it was affecting the community. They used different lenses and angles to capture the graffiti. The project was inspired by how much graffiti there was and how it had changed the community. The goal of the project was to improve photography skills and potentially show how the community could improve without as much graffiti.

Statement

The subject I decided to touch on was graffiti. Graffiti could be represented in many different ways. It could be
represented as beautiful art in the streets or it could also be represented as ugly writing on buildings. The way I see graffiti
is it could cause damage in communities. My project is about graffiti affecting a lot of my community, because some kids
do it and others get influenced by it. A few elements I used in my project were line, shape, and space.
What I did was that i would walk around my community and take pictures of where there was graffiti. I would go
through the streets and if I had extra time I would go to the river and take more pictures there. All I needed was my
camera and two different types of lenses. I had a long range lense and a short range lense. This is how I created my
artwork.
A reason I chose to do graffiti was because my community used to be so nice and friendly but now it's just filled of
gang members with graffiti all over the place. My community is what inspired me to do this project. What my project
expresses is that it could be a better community if there wasn't graffiti. Some emotions I showed in my artwork was that I
really focused on how the graffiti was and what the picture could be able to tell.
My goal as in artist is to get really good at photography. I want to be able to travel and take some amazing
pictures. My artwork helped me reach part of my goal because I was able to go around my community and take pictures
and be able to get better at it. If I keep taking on photos and focusing on my goals it would be soon for me to reach my
goals.
In conclusion what I learned about creating my artwork was that a lot of things have changed in my community.
My final piece is actually what i imagined because this is how i wanted it to come out. Doing this artwork will now help me
with my future work because i know what i could improve in.

Artist Biography
The name of this photographer is Luis Escandon. Luis was born in
East Los Angeles in July 18,2003. Luis was 15 years old when he got into
the life of photography. At first he didn't think photography was gonna be
something he liked, but after he started using a camera and he started to
take pictures he saw that it was very easy and fun. What Luis liked about
photography was that he would be able to walk around the city and just
take pictures of things he liked. When he would go out with his friends he'll
take his camera and just take lots of pictures. Luis chose the topic
"Graffiti" because in his community, Cudahy, there would be graffiti
everywhere. Luis always thought that his community would look way nicer
if the buildings and houses weren't always tagged. In Luis's photography
years he learned that it was super easy and that if anyone tried to do they
would enjoy it.
