Explanation: The main aim of this talk is to understand the person of the Holy Spirit and
discover the importance of the Holy Spirit in the life of a believer.

 Developing your relationship with the Holy Spirit

There are three names to the Holy Spirit:


Name in the OT signify the whole personality. Name speaks about the aualities of a person.

Holy Spirit is Person


In the same manner as God the Father and God the Son. The holy spirit is not a feeling,
although some of the descriptions used in the Bible used to describe His work may imply
such manifestations.
We read about the Spirit coming like wind that blows, as river that flows as fire that burns as
dove that alights, as oil that is smeared, as a hand that resets on you and so on.
Jn 14:16-18 – the Holyu Spirit is refered as ‘He’. It describes him as person

The Holy Spirit is with you every where, always. He abides with you. He is with you in your
home. He is with you as you relate with your spouse and childrens. He is with you at your
school, college or workplace, He is with you in the middle of difficult situations. He is with
you as you minister ot people. He is with you at every moment of every day. He can
transform and empower you in all those situations.
Hs being with us same as the Lord Jesus being with us.
ALLOS PARAKLETOS
Jn 14:16- He will give you another helper.
Jesus used the word another/ or of the same sort. Not heteros – not different.
What Jesus was to the disciples, the Holy Spirit would be to His disciples, in His absence.
Another helper of the same kind. Another helper who would be with us as Jesus was.

Amplified Bible brings out sevenfold meaning of the word ‘Parakletos.’


(Helper / comforter/ advocate/ intercessor-counsellor, strengthener, standby)

Helper – is some one wummoned / called to on’e side. As helper, the HS is our partner –
actually our senior partner. We are co-labourers with the HS. We are in partnership. We work
together in all that God has called us to do.
Acts 5:32- And also is the HS whom God had given to those who obey Him.
The HS is the Spirit of grace(Zech 12:10/ Hebrews 10:29).
He imparts God’s grace – supernatural empowering on what we do.

Learn to commune with the HS and ask Him for his help.

2. Comforter –
As comforter he brings encouragement, comfort, renwing, reviving and healing into our lives.
There are times when the Holy Spirit reminds us of what the Word says and the Word He
speaks brings encouragement to us. It lifts our spirits up.

3. Advocate– one who pleads another cause before a judge, a pleader, counsel of defense,
legal assistant, an advocate. Not only defends but makes sure that you receive the benefits
that are rightfully yours.

4. Intercessor- is one who pleads another’s cause with some one else, as a man plead for
a friend.
Heb 2:17-18/ 3:1/ 4:14-16/ 8:1/ 10:21.

- helps us in our weakness Rom 8:26
- Helps us make intercession when we do not know what to pray fpr (Rom 8:26)
- Helps us to make intercession according to the will of God (Rom 8:27)
- Helps us pray mysteries, things which our mind doesn’t even know about (1 Cor 14:2)
- Helps us make all kinds of prayer and supplication with perseverance undergirding is
in spiritual conflict (Eph 6:18)

5. Counselor
Jn 14:26/ 16:13-15
Hs is the spirit of cousel Is 11:2 also spirit of knowledge , wisdom , understanding.
1 Jn 2:20,26,27

6. Strengthener – a helper, aider, assistant. Strenghtens us by imparting to us what we lack


and increasing us in strength and capacity.
Ephe 3:16.
Through his strengthe we can over come the flesh Rom 8:13
We can oversome fear 2 Tim 1:7
Overcome the nemy 1 Jn 4:4
He strengthens us to sacrifice and do the will of the Father.
Even Jesus was empowered by the Eternal spirit to offer Himself on the Cross (Heb 9:14)
He empowers us and anoints us to do mighty works (Lk 24:49).

7. Stand By
He stands along us in and through everything. He gives us divine strength as we face
challenges, [ersecutions, and hardships for the sake of the Kingdom.
He gives us the words when we are brought before the authorities (mt 10:18-20)
